Job summary

Position Summary The Before and After School Educator provides essential support, resources, supervision, and leadership to ensure nurturing care and quality education for young children in a group setting. This role is carried out in alignment with 1st Class program goals and curriculum, the organization's philosophy and policies, and in strict compliance with the Alberta Early Learning and Child Care Act. The Educator reports to the Assistant Location Director and Location Director. Duties and Responsibilities * Supervise and actively engage with children throughout the day, adapting programming to promote holistic growth while maintaining a safe and nurturing environment * Contribute child-centred ideas and assist in program planning based on thoughtful observation of children's interests, strengths, and developmental needs * Plan and lead meaningful activities including storytelling, songs, field trips, and opportunities for creative expression through art, dramatic play, music, and physical exploration * Ensure licensing requirements are met at all times, including signing children in and out, maintaining required child-to-adult ratios, keeping children's records and portables current, and ensuring medication forms are accurately completed * Create and maintain an environment that safeguards children's health, security, and overall well-being * Conduct regular safety and hazard checks on indoor and outdoor equipment and furnishings * Assist with daily documentation of children's activities, experiences, and care * Foster and maintain positive, open communication with families on an ongoing basis * Observe children for signs of learning or behavioural concerns and prepare reports for families and supervisors as needed * Ensure all toys and materials are clean, well-maintained, and developmentally appropriate, reporting any deficiencies to the Director or Supervisor * Perform housekeeping duties to keep all program spaces clean, organized, and welcoming at all times * Attend staff meetings as scheduled * Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director or management team Qualifications * Flexible availability to work all program hours and cover shifts as needed * Minimum Level 1 Early Childhood Educator Certificate, or ability to obtain within 4 months of hire * Current police clearance, including vulnerable sector search, provided within 8 weeks of hire * Valid CPR and First Aid Certificate, provided within 10 weeks of hire Work Conditions and Physical Requirements * A combination of sitting, standing, and walking throughout the shift * Frequent bending, crouching, and kneeling * Repetitive tasks requiring sustained attention to detail * Physically demanding role requiring the ability to lift and move between 20–35 lbs Benefits Health Benefits * Dental plan * Health care plan * Vision care * Accidental Death and Dismemberment coverage Additional Benefits * Childcare discount
