ADS ensures that all interested applicants have the right to be considered for a service dog, promoting fairness and inclusion. Each ADS service dog helps clients build self confidence and engage more fully in school and community life, making a lasting impact on families and communities. Role Description The Advanced Service Dog Trainer role is a temporary full time, remote position focused on supporting the training and readiness of service dogs for individuals with autism and related disorders. Day-to-day tasks include developing and implementing individualized training plans, reinforcing advanced obedience and task-specific behaviors, and monitoring animal behavior to ensure dogs meet service standards. The trainer will collaborate with other team members to provide guidance on dog placement, offer remote support and coaching to volunteers and possibly clients, and maintain accurate training records and progress reports. Additional responsibilities may include participating in virtual and in person meetings, contributing to training resources, and upholding ADS’s values and welfare standards for all dogs in the program. Qualifications Candidates should possess strong Dog Training and Training skills, particularly in advanced obedience and task-based work. Candidates should possess solid Animal Behavior and Pet Care skills to ensure dogs’ physical and psychological well-being. Candidates should possess effective Customer Service skills to support children, families, and individuals with empathy and professionalism. Experience working with service dogs, working dogs, or assistance dogs is very beneficial. Knowledge of autism, neurodiversity, or experience supporting individuals and families is an asset. Ability to work independently in a remote setting, manage schedules, and maintain detailed documentation. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and comfort with virtual tools and technology. Relevant certifications, courses, or formal education in dog training, animal behavior, or a related field are considered an advantage.
