Notre Dame Elementary School is seeking a caring, patient, and dependable Classroom Education Assistant (EA) to join our inclusive K–7 Catholic school community. Position Details Hours: 28.75 hours per week / 5.75 hours per day Wage Range: $26.00 - $28.50 (based on experience & education) Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m.–2:45 p.m. Term: School days until the last day of classes in June 2027 About the Role Working closely with the classroom teacher, Learning Support Teacher, and school administration, the Classroom EA will support designated and non-designated students to access learning and participate successfully in classroom and school life. The role includes individual and small-group support for students with diverse learning needs, including students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), social-emotional needs, and behavioural support needs. Key Responsibilities Provide academic support and reinforce learning as directed by the classroom teacher or Learning Support Teacher. Assist with implementing Competency-Based Individual Education Plans (CBIEPs), student learning plans, behaviour support plans, and learning adaptations. Support students in developing independence, communication, social skills, and self- regulation. Use visual supports, structured routines, and positive behaviour support strategies, including de-escalation techniques as appropriate to student plans and staff training. Supervise students and support their safety and well-being during classroom activities, transitions, recess, lunch, and other school activities. Provide health-related assistance as required, including monitoring and administering medications or assisting with recommended exercises, as outlined in student care plans. Share observations about student progress and needs with teachers and support staff. Help maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment. Uphold student dignity, confidentiality, and professionalism at all times. Training will be provided to support assigned responsibilities and student needs. Qualifications and Qualities An Education Assistant Diploma or Certificate is preferred; we may also consider applicants with other relevant education, coursework, training, or experience. We are looking for someone who brings: Patience, compassion, and respect for diverse learning needs. Strong communication and teamwork skills. Flexibility, dependability, and a willingness to learn. The ability to remain calm and supportive in challenging situations. A commitment to student safety, dignity, independence, and well-being. Support for the Catholic mission and values of our school. Experience supporting students with inclusive education practices and experience in a school or child-care setting would be assets. First Aid certification, or a willingness to obtain it, is preferred.
