We are looking for enthusiastic and positive individuals to learn, share, and grow with us in “the natural place to work”.THE ROLEThis is food preparation, distribution and vehicle operation work in support of the School District's food programs. The employee is responsible for preparing and organizing food and supplies for distribution, safely transporting food, materials and related supplies between School District locations, and loading, unloading and distributing deliveries to designated areas. The work involves the safe and efficient operation of a District vehicle, following established food safety and handling procedures, maintaining delivery schedules and ensuring food and supplies are transported and distributed safely and efficiently. Assignments and delivery requirements are received orally and in writing. Work performance is reviewed for adherence to food safety requirements, safe vehicle operation, accuracy and timeliness of deliveries, and the effective provision of food program services.REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLSWorking knowledge of basic food preparation, food handling and food distribution practices.Working knowledge of food safety, sanitation and safe food transportation requirements.Sound knowledge of safe vehicle operation and driving techniques.Sound knowledge of local streets, traffic routes and School District locations.Ability to safely and efficiently operate a District vehicle.Ability to organize and complete multiple deliveries within established schedules.Ability to safely load, secure, unload and transport food, supplies and equipment.Ability to follow established procedures relating to food preparation, storage, transportation, distribution and sanitation.Ability to maintain basic inventory, delivery and program records.Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.Ability to work independently and organize work effectively.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with School District staff, students and others encountered in the course of the work.Sufficient physical strength, stamina and agility to perform food preparation, loading, unloading and delivery duties.DESIRABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCECompletion of Grade 11 or equivalent. Over three months and up to six months of previous experience in food preparation, food handling or food service, together with experience operating a delivery vehicle or performing delivery work. Experience working in a school, institutional, catering or large-scale food service environment, and educating elementary students about healthy, local, fresh food is desirable or an equivalent combination of training and experience.This is a unionized position, and the current rate of pay is $27.94 per hour plus 14% in lieu of benefits.The North Vancouver School District is committed to providing an inclusive and accessible work environment.
