Some additional Humanities capacity would be useful to us, but we are much more interested in finding the right teacher than in filling one narrowly defined subject position.The right person will likely have a strong teaching area of their own, along with the flexibility and interest to contribute across subject areas, collaborate with colleagues, and help build engaging, cross-curricular learning experiences across the program.We are especially interested in someone who brings initiative, sound judgement, creativity, and follow-through — a teacher who can work independently, collaborate well, organize learning experiences, and help turn good ideas into strong student experiences.Experience with project-based learning is an asset, but just as important is an interest in hands-on, experiential, and cross-curricular learning.A Little About UsWhytecliff is unique. We are a BC Ministry of Education accredited independent school and a CARF-accredited therapeutic Positive Youth Development program.At our Langley campus, we work with a small group of 45–55 students in Grades 8–12. Many of our students have struggled in traditional school settings and arrive with diverse learning needs, social-emotional challenges, anxiety, ADHD, ASD, dyslexia, school avoidance, low confidence, or a history of feeling that school has not worked for them.That is why teaching here is different.We are not just trying to cover curriculum. We are helping students experience school as a place where they can belong, build skills, ask better questions, find their voice, and see themselves as capable learners.We blend academics with Positive Youth Development, outdoor education, project-based learning, mental wellness, social-emotional growth, and real-world skill building. We are interested in what else you bring.The Role: What You'll Be DoingThis is a secondary teaching role with room for the successful candidate's strengths to help shape the final assignment.Our current needs make some additional Humanities capacity useful, but we have flexibility to build the position around the strengths of the right person. Depending on your background, your teaching assignment could include Humanities, English, Social Studies, Math, Science, ADST, Arts, Careers, Learning Support, or other areas of the secondary program.You will also help strengthen the way projects, themes, field trips, student voice, and evidence of learning come together across the program.Key responsibilities include:Teaching secondary courses – Planning and delivering engaging instruction in your areas of strength for students in Grades 8–12.Helping students reconnect with learning – Building confidence in students who may have struggled with academics, focus, organization, attendance, participation, or their own sense of themselves as learners.Designing meaningful learning experiences – Creating opportunities for students to read, write, calculate, research, discuss, build, create, present, document, and reflect.Supporting diverse learners – Adapting lessons, assignments, pacing, feedback, and assessment so students with IEPs and varied learning needs can participate with dignity and success.Building classroom culture – Creating routines, expectations, and group norms that support belonging, focus, respectful disagreement, repair, and return to learning.Connecting learning beyond the classroom – Helping connect curriculum with field trips, community experiences, outdoor learning, projects, student showcases, portfolios, presentations, and school-wide themes.Using assessment meaningfully – Gathering evidence through observations, conversations, writing, projects, portfolios, presentations, performance tasks, and student reflection.Collaborating with the team and families – Working closely with educators, youth development workers, counsellors, families, and leadership so students experience consistent support.Contributing to the life of the school – Bringing ideas, helping organize experiences, participating in shared planning, and contributing to student engagement and the overall life of the program.As interests and strengths emerge, there may also be opportunities to take responsibility for particular projects, curriculum areas, learning experiences, or aspects of program coordination.Education and CertificationA Bachelor of Education and current BC teacher certification are strongly preferred.We are looking for candidates with the preparation, experience, and professional background to teach successfully in a BC secondary school setting.Applicants must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
