Job summary
Canadian Hearing Services (CHS) has an opening for a Lifeskills Literacy Instructor (LINC), based at CHS Peel. Reporting to the Manager, Training Services, the Lifeskills Literacy Instructor (LINC) will deliver Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC) aligned with portfolio-based language assessment leading to learner progression and certificates. The program uses a bilingual approach, with American Sign Language as the language of instruction, to teach functional English (reading and writing) to adult newcomers who are Deaf. To achieve the language and skills needed to function in Canada, and to assist newcomers to overcome communication barriers, the program will follow LINC curriculum guidelines and the Canadian Language Benchmarks for the Deaf. Conducted in-person in a multilevel, multicultural classroom environment, learners will also be taught the life skills needed for their successful transition to life in Canada. This is a permanent, part-time unionized position working Monday – Thursday, 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. This posting is for an existing vacanc y. The salary for this position is $51,970. 95. The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in education or equivalent, as well as 2-3 years’ related work experience including developing and adapting lesson plans and related materials, combined with utilizing various teaching styles to match and meet learner needs and learning styles. You are fully proficient utilizing MS Teams and Zoom to teach online when required and to incorporate technology into in-person less ons. You are fluent in American Sign Language (ASL) and possess a strong understanding of Deaf culture. The Deaf Practitioner’s Certificate through S5 - Dynamic Learning Initiative would be an asset.
