Position Details Position Information Position Title Part-Time Academic (SPAN 1022.03: Beginning Spanish II) (Multiple Sections, Online Synchronous) – Winter 2027 Posting Number PTAP3517P Department/Unit Spanish & Latin American Studies Location Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada Job Summary & Key Responsibilities Multiple part-time academics are needed to teach Spanish 1022.03: Beginning Spanish II in the Winter 2027 term (January 1, 2027 – April 30, 2027). Instructors are needed for the following sections: Section 7, currently scheduled: TR 11:35 – 12:55 Section 8, currently scheduled: MW 14:35 – 15:55 Applicants are asked to identify in their application which section(s) they are interested in teaching. Please note these courses are taught online. Course Description: This course builds on the foundational skills developed in SPAN 1021 , expanding students’ ability to communicate in Spanish in a wider range of everyday situations. Through interactive and task-based activities, students will enhance their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills while exploring topics like travel, past experiences, future plans, and opinions. By the end of the course, students will be able to participate in short conversations, understand more detailed texts, and write structured paragraphs. The part-time academic will be responsible for all aspects of teaching and administering the class, including admission, lectures, test preparation, evaluation, and electronic submission of grades. Instructors are expected to maintain reliable and constant communication with the administration of the Department, to be available for two hours per week for consultation with students, and to have students fill out the evaluation questionnaire at the end of the course. Qualifications/Requirements Of Position Applicants should have native or near-native fluency in Spanish and English and hold a graduate degree in Spanish, Hispanic Studies, Applied Linguistics, Language Education, or a closely related field. Candidates should demonstrate strong teaching skills in university-level Spanish language instruction, including grammar instruction, commitment to student learning, and a strong sense of instructional responsibility. The successful candidate will be expected to deliver the course in an online format. Preference will therefore be given to candidates with demonstrated experience teaching and designing Spanish language courses in online environments, including the use of digital platforms and interactive approaches that support student engagement and effective language learning. Background or training in language pedagogy will be considered an asset. Previous teaching experience at the post-secondary level will be an asset. Requirements
