Rep Basketball Coach

Job Summary GTA Mavericks Basketball Association is seeking an experienced Rep Basketball Coach to lead our rep teams during the upcoming season. The successful candidate will have a passion for basketball and a commitment to helping young athletes reach their full potential. This individual should possess excellent communication skills, be able to work with a variety of personalities, and demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of competitive basketball strategies. Responsibilities • Develop practice plans, game strategies, and other coaching tools and resources in order to develop player skill sets while having fun playing the sport • Teach players proper technique for all aspects of the game including footwork, ball handling, shooting mechanics, defense techniques, court positioning etc. • Monitor student-athlete's academic and social progress • Establish high standards for team conduct, encouragement and discipline • Communicate regularly with players, parents, administration, and other staff members of the organization • Create a positive environment where players can learn fundamental skills to play successfully at higher levels • Maintain records of player development and performance over the course of the season • Attend coaching seminars, clinics, and meetings as required Qualifications/Skills • Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education or related field preferred; High School Diploma or equivalent minimum requirement • 3+ years Basketball Coaching/playing experience • Demonstrated knowledge of basketball fundamentals including offensive/defensive strategies, drills, and team management • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task • Knowledge of sport safety guidelines and injury prevention • Ability to motivate student-athletes, create a positive team environment, and demonstrate sportsmanship • Excellent leadership skills with the ability to lead by example • Valid driver’s license is required (including travel as needed) • Successful completion of background check(s) required prior to start date. Ability to travel as needed for games/tournaments/clinics etc. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate an unwavering commitment towards promoting a positive environment that is conducive to learning while adhering to the values and mission of our organization. The coach will develop practice plans and game strategies to improve player skill sets and technical fundamentals. They are also responsible for monitoring student-athlete progress and maintaining a positive, disciplined team environment.

Candidates should have at least 3 years of coaching or playing experience and a high school diploma, though a bachelor's degree in Physical Education is preferred. A valid driver's license and successful completion of a background check are required.
