Job summary

The primary focus of this Registered Nurse (RN) role is to provide hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis treatments, and nursing care to pediatric hemodialysis and nephrology patients in a variety of settings. As a member of the interdisciplinary team, the RN will be involved in both direct and indirect care of children who require hemodialysis. This will include assessment and implementation of patient care plans in the inpatient and outpatient settings. As a member of the interdisciplinary health care team, the RN uses clinical expertise and knowledge of children and families, disease processes and related issues to plan patient care and evaluate clinical practice across the continuum of care. Registered Nurse, in good standing with the College of Nurses on Ontario Successful completion of a Pediatric Hemodialysis training program and completion of Pediatric Hemodialysis competencies. This includes the dialysis process and nursing care of the end stage renal disease patient on maintenance dialysis with direct pediatric hemodialysis experience Completion of a Nursing Nephrology Course Minimum of three (3) years recent pediatric experience in the last four (4) years in a tertiary care setting with children who have nephrology conditions Experience working in inpatient and outpatient pediatric tertiary care settings with pediatric hemodialysis Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification Competence in hemodialysis, and peritoneal dialysis including home teaching Demonstrated teaching skills including adult learning principles Demonstrated skills in vascular access including bloodletting with children of all ages Demonstrated expertise in working within an interdisciplinary team Demonstrated knowledge, skill and ability in caring for pediatric nephrology patients and their families Demonstrated expertise in supporting patients transitioning from the pediatric to adult care setting Experience in development of education and programs and materials with the healthcare team for children and their families Demonstrated dedication to equity, diversity and inclusion, including commitment to education and growth in this area Ability to communicate with children and their families under stressful conditions and collaborate and work within an interdisciplinary team Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal skills Demonstrated leadership and delegation abilities and the ability to organize and coordinate patient and family-centered care with other members of the healthcare team Demonstrated skills in physical and psychosocial assessment specific to the Pediatric nephrology population Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning and quality improvement Demonstrated leadership within a healthcare team Demonstrated understanding and commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion Demonstration of clinical expertise in pediatric psychosocial assessments, pediatric growth and development, critical thinking and problem solving Demonstration and knowledge in the role of community liaison and access to supports for the children and families Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal Demonstrated ability to be self-directed and also collaborative with a multidisciplinary team Knowledge, skill and ability to provide health teaching for pediatric patients and their families, specific to the needs of the clinic population

Requirements
