Job Summary Under the direction of the Senior Digital Content and Marketing Manager and Marketing Coordinator and Marketing and Communications Specialist for Student Housing and Community Services (SHCS), as well as the support of others in the Marketing and Communications department, the Marketing Photographer supports Food Services and the Bookstore’s e-commerce, social media and advertising strategies by taking visually-stunning imagery of food, products and people, and strategically publishing this content on different social media channels. The successful candidate will be responsible for brainstorming visual themes that support SHCS business strategy, taking and editing photos of products, coordinating models for photoshoots, and posting photography on social media channels. There is an opportunity for the successful candidate to be trained on the e-commerce platform, where they can write web copy and publish products for online purchasing. The UBC Bookstore has a strong social media following, with over 10,000 Instagram Followers. The UBC Bookstore website has almost 400,000 visits a year. The successful candidate will help the department showcase more products and services through these channels in new and creative ways. Food Services has over 12,000 followers on Instagram and has over 600,000 visits to its website each ear. Organizational Status Reports to the Marketing and Communications Manager for Student Housing and Community Services (SHCS), which includes the UBC Bookstore and Food Services. Works in coordination with Merchandise Buyers for the UBC Bookstore and the Marketing and Communications Coordinator for SHCS. Work Performed Oversees the planning and execution of product and food photography for the UBC Bookstore and Food Services. Coordinates with Merchandise buyers and the Marketing team on choosing product photography that supports national holidays and celebrations, campus events and Bookstore campaigns. Attend strategy meetings with the marketing and buying team and provide suggestions for product and service photography that will support the Bookstore’s business goals and UBC’s brand. Brainstorm photoshoots that coordinate with the Bookstore and Food Services marketing calendar, the buyers incoming merchandise and UBC’s calendar of events. Photoshop taken photography so it’s ready for online publishing. Work with the Marketing Coordinator on publishing photography on social media channels through a scheduling platform. Coordinate with student models for photoshoots. When needed, publish product on e-commerce site, along with descriptive web copy (if not provided by supplier). Stay in regular contact with the Marketing Manager, Marketing Coordinator and other Communications staff to insure all photography is aligned with the Bookstore’s and Food Services marketing, branding and sales goals. Consequence of Error/Judgement Works within well defined guidelines and procedures, but exercises judgment in establishing priorities and carrying tasks through to completion. Supervision Received Works under general supervision in carrying out familiar duties and responsibilities; receives instructions during orientation and on subsequent new assignments or changes in procedures. Minimum Qualifications High school graduation, some additional training in a related field and a minimum two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Requirements
Candidates must have a high school diploma and at least two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Proficiency in Creative Suite and a strong interest in social media marketing are preferred.
