This position is currently based at Jane St. Child Care Centre (610 Jane St, Toronto, ON M6S 4A6) ---------------------------------------- RESPONSIBILITIES: * Establish and maintain a clean and safe environment in and around the Child Care Centre * Maintain the inside of the building, including but not limited to mopping, sweeping, vacuuming, dusting, laundry, removing and storage of garbage, washing windows, walls and cleaning and sanitizing washrooms. * Maintain outside of building and grounds, including but not limited to daily removal of debris and seasonal maintenance such as cleaning eaves troughs, cutting grass and removal of snow and ice surrounding the properties leased or owned by Macaulay. * Maintain playgrounds clean and free of debris and keep fences and gates maintained in good working order. * Carry out minor repairs to buildings, equipment and kitchen equipment * Follow a seasonal maintenance schedule for caretaking equipment * Manage an appropriate inventory of cleaning and maintenance supplies making sure they are stored as required in locked cupboards or containers agreed QUALIFICATIONS: * Experience as a general handyperson with significant experience in minor repairs to buildings, maintenance of large and small machinery * Understanding and working knowledge of Toronto Public Health and Ontario Health and Safety requirements. * WHMIS Certified with a general understanding and application of best practices for alternative “green” products and practices * Able to work independently and as a member of a Child Care Centre team * Ability to do heavy lifting over 20lbs and use a ladder. * Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective work partnerships with parents/families, colleagues and service providers of diverse backgrounds, abilities and identities * Ability to communicate effectively in more than one language is an asset * Excellent time management skills and demonstrated ability to prioritize * Acceptable Vulnerable Sector Police Reference Check ---------------------------------------- SALARY: Caretaker Salary Scale ($23.08/hour ($41, 997 per annum (prorated)) with Competitive Benefits Package (health & dental) and paid time off entitlements (including vacation days & float days (prorated)). ---------------------------------------- THIS POSITION IS WITHIN THE CUPE LOCAL 2563 BARGAINING UNIT.
