JOB POSTING Food Services Cook Part-Time, Permanent 2 Positions Hourly Wage: $20.82 Existing Vacancy: Yes Posting No. MS0657 POSITION SUMMARY: The Cook will prepare food and assist in food preparation for Mission Services’ sites. This position will require a working knowledge, and a range of skills pertaining to, working within Health and Safety guidelines and proper food handling techniques. The Cook will have valid Food Handler’s Certification and the ability to work a flexible schedule of day, afternoon and weekend shifts, as required to meet the needs of the programs. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: * Prepare food and assist in food preparation for residential facilities with 100+ individuals * Receive, organize, and rotate food items * Utilize food donations efficiently and within appropriate health guidelines * Maintain an orderly and clean kitchen keeping within Health and Safety guidelines and proper food handling * Work from an Anti-Racism, Anti-Oppression framework * Work with staff and volunteers to deliver the best service possible * Committed to uphold the organization’s mission, values and standards * Adhere to a strict policy of confidentiality * Work safely, identify any health and safety concerns and report to management, and always follow Mission Services workplace health and safety policies and procedures * Other duties as required to ensure the continuation of service to residents/service users QUALIFICATIONS: * Minimum of one (1) year of kitchen experience, experience in a healthcare or social services organization * Knowledge of Canada Food Guidelines * Sensitivity and ability to work in an environment that serves marginalized individuals (poverty, homelessness, trauma, abuse and addiction), while demonstrating and modelling good boundaries * Flexibility to work with a variety of food donations * Ability to work independently and in a team environment * Ability to lift up to 22.5 kg (50 lbs) * Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) Training is an asset HOURS OF WORK: * Minimum 15 hours per week with ability to pick up additional shifts. * Must be available to work weekdays and weekends REQUIREMENTS: * Clear Police Vulnerable Sector Check * Proof of Negative Two-Step Tuberculosis Skin Test * Valid Food Handlers Certification COMPENSATION: * Wage starts at $20.82 per hour At Mission Services of Hamilton, we value diversity in our employees, and we work from an anti-racism/anti-oppression framework and strive for equity and inclusion.
