Reporting to the HR Manager, you will be responsible for the full spectrum of human resources activities. More specifically, you will provide HR Generalist support regarding recruitment and staffing, organization effectiveness, compensation, labour relations, performance management and feedback, employee relations, and tasks involved in administration of employee programs and services. As an integral part of the Human Resources department, you will provide human resources expertise and assistance in support of the policies and strategies.

You will have the opportunity to:

  • Provide advice, guidance and assistance on human resources practices and programs.
  • Conduct recruitment efforts locally to find key talent and build bench strength, including partnering with local universities to strengthen Domtar’s brand and recruitment efforts.
  • Work with line managers to establish recruitment requirements and manage and participate in the full cycle of the recruitment process.
  • Ensure that all compensation strategies are properly implemented and managed and that a balance between external competitiveness, internal alignment and employee contribution is maintained.
  • Responsible for our talent management strategies and effort and our diversity plans.
  • Interpret and administer the terms of collective agreement.
  • Develop and maintain a positive partnership with union leadership to ensure sustainable business operations and results.
  • Skilled in investigating and resolving complex employee relations issues and coaching managers through performance management and employee concerns while maintaining confidentiality, consistency and sensitivity.
  • Develop and maintain a professional relationship with employees by ensuring a sense of confidentiality, mutual trust, concern, respect and teamwork.
  • Maintain compliance with federal and provincial regulations concerning employment.
  • Manages local records and reporting.
  • Successfully complete all other duties and assigned projects necessary to support plant operations.

Your Profile:

  • More than 5 years of Human Resources and labour relations experience.
  • Confident communicator at all levels of organization including listening, writing and presenting.
  • Change agent with the ability to collaborate well with others.
  • Business partner approach to human resources.
  • Experience in a unionized environment
  • Strong problem solving & analytical skills, excellent judgment and confidentiality.
  • Proven organization skills ability to prioritize effectively and manage multiple tasks in an environment with competing demands.
  • Exceptional coaching skills with proven ability to coach varying levels of the operation.
  • Known for your learning abilities and interest in acquiring new skills.
  • Work well in team and possess a friendly and positive demeanor and professional image.
  • A strong computer system aptitude and ease working with various type of software including Microsoft Office Suite products.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a Major in Human Resources and/or equivalent is an asset
