RESIDENT SERVICES WORKER (Casual) –Mapleview Long Term Care

Consideration will be given to applicants who demonstrate maturity and have a desire to support our elderly maintain a rewarding Quality of Life while living at MapleView Long Term Care Home. If you are energetic and organized apply for our Resident Service Workers casual position. As the position develops -with call in response it could lead to full time hours. Shifts will be early morning or later in the afternoon to be discussed at the interview. Our home is located in Owen Sound, Ontario.

  • Paid lunch and break times.

Reporting to the Director of Care and under the direction of the Registered Staff the Resident Assistant is responsible for assisting the nursing staff in tasks that require no hands on care of the resident. Duties include: transporting residents to “in house” programs, dining room and appointments within the Home; answering call bells, delivering messages to the nursing staff, maintaining organization in resident’s rooms and maintaining supplies, assisting with resident nutrition including feeding residents and providing 1:1 resident support. No hands on care permitted.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Transport resident to onsite programming, dining room and internal appointments; accommodates residents’ right to choice
  • Performs tasks such as: cleaning spills; making beds and changing linens; maintain a clean, tidy and safe environment in the Home including the resident’s room; labelling of personal grooming items; putting away personal laundry; cleaning high touch surfaces; wiping up spills and regularly organizing resident closets and drawers.
  • Assists with nutrition and feeding, including but not limited to: distributing cloth protects for meal times; setting up the dining room for meal times and clearing dishes after meals; assisting with feeding of residents through encouragement and coaching
  • Assist resident with hand washing before and after meals
  • Spends time with residents engaging in activities such as reading, card games and puzzles
  • Provides 1:1 resident support
  • Answer call bells and communicate residents’ concerns to staff
  • Collaborates with residents, families and team members to maintain a positive, supportive and safe environment for all
  • Participates in Quality Improvement activities and advocates for the resident/family individual needs and preferences
  • Mentally and physically able to perform duties as assigned
  • Ability to communicate positively with other staff, residents and families
  • Demonstrates empathy, concern and interest in providing quality care and service to residents
  • skills and ability to complete assignments in a timely fashion
  • No hands-on personal care is permitted

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum Grade 12 Diploma or GEC/ or consideration will be given to those demonstrate maturity, desire, to support our Elderly Residents maintain a rewarding Quality of Life in our home at MapleView
  • Demonstrated experience and interest in working with seniors
  • Patience dealing with elderly persons
  • Understand the concept of Zero Tolerance of Abuse

  • Demonstrated commitment to client centered care
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Conditions of Employment

  • Must have a completed Vulnerable Sector Check (within 6 months); and a current 2 step TB skin test (within a year).
