Position Department: Athletics Administration Position School: Administration Overview: Robert Morris University Men’s Hockey program is seeking a dedicated Student Assistant to support the daily execution and game-day operations of the team across three core operational areas: Equipment, Hockey Operations, and Video/Analytics. Working directly alongside program leadership, these roles are responsible for crucial bench and locker room preparation, commercial gear maintenance, and equipment, managing team meal distribution, recruit visit logistics, and visiting team accommodations (Operations); and operating camera systems to execute live shift-tagging, statistical tracking, and film breakdown using specialized software (Video/Analytics). The ideal candidates possess a strong work ethic, exceptional attention to detail, a foundational understanding of hockey operations or tactics, and the ability to thrive under tight deadlines in a fast-paced, high-performance elite athletic environment. Responsibilities: This individual will provide comprehensive operational, equipment, and video support to ensure the seamless execution of daily team activities, practices, and game days for the Division I Men’s Hockey program. Core responsibilities include bench and locker room preparation, operating commercial laundry systems, managing gear inventory, and packing equipment trunks for team travel. Operationally, you will coordinate team meal logistics, assist with official recruit visit itineraries, support visiting team and referee needs, and handle general administrative tasks for program staff. Additionally, you will set up and operate high-definition video cameras during practices and games to execute live shift-tagging, track advanced statistical metrics, and upload game film to league exchanges for coaching breakdown and scouting prep. Minimum Qualifications: Individuals must be currently enrolled in classes, in good academic standing, demonstrating a strong work ethic, exceptional reliability, and a foundational knowledge of ice hockey tactics and rules. Preferred applicants possess prior experience in athletic operations, equipment management, video breakdown software (such as Catapult, Instat, or XOS), or sports camera operation. The position requires strong organizational, communication, and multi-tasking skills, as well as the technical aptitude to quickly learn specialized sports performance platforms. Candidates must maintain strict confidentiality regarding team data, roster management, and recruiting efforts. The role demands significant physical capability, including the ability to lift and maneuver heavy equipment trunks up to 50 pounds, work long hours on foot in cold rink environments, and commit to a flexible schedule including early mornings, nights, weekends, and team travel.
