(10:30 to 2pm and 4 to 7:30pm) Compensation: $17.60 - $21.06 hourly Reports to: Food, Beverage and Hospitality Team Leader Date Posted: July 28, 2026 Deadline: Until position is filled Position Summary Responsible for ensuring a safe, hygienic, and efficient kitchen environment by maintaining the cleanliness and organization of all food service, storage, and dining areas. This role supports food safety, assists kitchen staff during service periods, follows Public Health and WHMIS regulations, and contributes to SPLC’s sustainability goals through proper waste separation, resource-efficient cleaning, and environmentally responsible practices. Responsibilities Maintains cleanliness and tidiness in the Food Services department Ensures washing, sanitizing and proper storage of all kitchenware, pots, pans, tableware, cutlery, glassware, and cooking equipment according to department sanitation procedures and Public Health standards. Ensure all soiled wares are scraped and rinsed before loading into the dishwashing machine. Ensures all items washed in the dishwasher are spotless, free of stains, food residue or chemical streaks before storing. Supports planned catering and social events as needed. Operates and maintains equipment in a safe manner. Clean the dishwashing machine after each meal period, ensuring no foreign particles are stuck or left in the drains. Supports Cook and Food Preparation Activities Assists the Cook with daily prep tasks, including peeling, washing, cutting, and portioning vegetables, fruits, and other ingredients according to food safety and departmental standards. Prepares basic mise in place items to support menu production, catering, and à-la-carte service. Education: High School graduate with OSSD or equivalent, an asset Skills & Experience: Minimum one (1) year experience in restaurant, cafeteria, or food services environment. Strong knowledge of cleaning and sanitation procedures, including dishwashing operations and food safety standards. Ability to follow instructions, work in fast-paced environments, and maintain high standards of cleanliness. Good communication skills in English; ability to work collaboratively with multicultural teams. Commitment to safe and sustainable work practices. Knowledge of Public Health standards, WHMIS, and workplace safety protocols is an asset. Working Conditions: Exposure to high temperatures, steam, and kitchen equipment. Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 40 lbs. Exposure to hot foods, hot water, and cleaning chemicals. Possible exposure to contagious illnesses in community settings. Work environment includes interruptions, multiple priorities and occasional high-volume service periods. Required to work variable hours, including evenings, weekends and holidays as needed.
