Job summary
Make a Difference with the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul Vancouver Island! Join our small, but dedicated team at Society of Saint Vincent de Paul Thrift Store. In this role, you will support the daily operations of our thrift stores and warehouse by receiving and processing donations, assisting customers, maintaining a clean and organized environment, and ensuring a positive shopping experience. Please note: this position may work out of any of our 3 locations so a valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation is an asset. KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Greet and assist customers with purchases, questions, and concerns Operate the POS system to complete sales, issue receipts, and balance cash at day’s end Accept, sort, and price donations; politely decline unsuitable items Maintain clean and organized donation and sales areas Display merchandise neatly and restock as needed Perform daily cleaning tasks including sweeping, mopping, dusting, and taking out garbage/recycling Monitor store safety and security in line Society policies Assist with opening and closing duties, including cash handling and reporting Support volunteers and help with training or supervision as needed Answer phones professionally and assist with inquiries Load/unload Society truck or van when required Our ideal Thrift Store Worker will bring the following: High school diploma or GED Retail or customer service experience Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods These Skills and Abilities will help you thrive: Knowledge of inventory control, shipping, and receiving is an asset Strong communication and interpersonal skills Comfortable using computers and POS systems Self-motivated, adaptable, and able to work independently or as part of a team Ability to organize and prioritize own workload. Additional Requirements A criminal record check including a Ministry of Justice Vulnerable Sector Clearance Letter is required prior to hiring.
