Job summary
Duties & Responsibilities Performs phlebotomy on the floors, in the outpatient lab and Emergency department. Registers specimens and verifies for entry into the LIS system. Performs pre-analytical procedures (e.g., centrifugation, aliquot, prepare smears and solutions, etc.) Sorts, allocates and delivers specimens to work stations, and loads onto instruments as appropriate. Receives, unpacks and sorts incoming specimens. Prepares specimens for send-out to external clients. Participates in performing basic QC and inventory management Printing and distribution of laboratory reports. Responds to all customer telephone inquiries. Assist with collecting data and creating/revising SOPs Rotates through different work areas as required. Troubleshoot as needed. Qualifications Completion of an approved Laboratory Technician program/course. OSMT or CSMLS certification required or willing to obtain within 6 months of employment. Previous experience and certified to perform venipuncture on adults and children. Computer skills, including previous experience with a Laboratory Information System is required. Demonstrates excellent communication and customer service skills when working with patients, co-workers and hospital staff. Demonstrates characteristics of a strong team player. Availability for evening and weekend shifts. Satisfactory attendance record. HOURS OF WORK:Must be willing and able to work rotating shifts, weekends and statutory holidays as required.
