Occupational Therapist Physical Medicine

Join our St. Joseph Health Centre team as we work to put patients and families at the centre of everything we do, in the role of Occupational Therapist in our Orthopedic and Plastics Rehabilitation Program. The Occupational Therapist in our Orthopedic and Plastics Rehabilitation Program will assess and treat patients who have been referred by the plastic or orthopedic surgery programs with injuries or conditions related to their upper extremity. Services may include assessment, treatment, consultation, orthotic fabrication and education to patients, their family members. Duties & Responsibilities The primary role of an Occupational Therapist is to assess and treat patients whose occupational performance is impaired by illness or injury, social disadvantage, trauma, or the aging process. The purpose of occupational therapy is to promote, maintain, or restore health and wellbeing through engagement in meaningful occupations in the areas of self-care, productivity, and leisure. Occupational therapy services may include assessment, treatment, consultation, discharge planning, and education to patients, their family members, external agencies, and hospital staff. Works effectively as a member of an interprofessional team, collaborating with other disciplines to provide comprehensive patient care Contributes to the academic mandate of the organization as an educator, resource or support for staff and members of the academic and professional community Identifies and addresses educational needs for patients and their families Demonstrates commitment to ongoing professional development in order to continue to provide optimal patient care Is committed to and participates in ongoing quality improvement and/or research in the organization Provides patient care in accordance with all professional and organizational standards Is committed to providing anti oppressive and accessible care for all patients Qualifications Must be currently licensed by and in good standing with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario for practice in all applicable clinical areas Must hold a Master’s Degree (or substantial equivalent) in Occupational Therapy Current BLS (or willingness to complete within probationary period) As required by the program, must be Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) certified (or willing to certify prior to the end of the probationary period) Experience in orthopedic and plastics rehabilitation is preferred Excellent communication, critical thinking and interpersonal skills Proven flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced environment Excellent time management, organizational and prioritization skills as relates to patient care Demonstrated advocacy, commitment to and involvement with profession preferred (e.g. involvement with professional association, representation on relevant committees) Potential candidates who do not meet all preferred qualifications are still encouraged to apply. Assess and treat patients with upper extremity injuries within the Orthopedic and Plastics Rehabilitation Program. Provide comprehensive care including consultation, orthotic fabrication, and education to patients and their families.

Must be a licensed Occupational Therapist in Ontario with a Master's Degree and BLS certification. MoCA certification is required or must be obtained during the probationary period.
