We at the Hope Medical Clinic, St. Michael’s Health Care Services, are excited to invite applications for a temporary part-time Medical Office Assistant. We are looking for an experienced professional with a warm, welcoming personality, strong communication skills, and a passion for providing excellent client service to be the first point of contact in our department. This role is based at our Hope Medical Clinic, located at 7404 – 139 Avenue NW, Edmonton, Alberta, and reports directly to the Senior Manager, Healthcare Services. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: * Answer phone calls, schedule appointments, and greet clients in a professional manner. * Prepare examination rooms and ensure they are properly stocked and sanitized. * Escort clients to examination rooms and assist them as needed, and perform basic pre-exam intake (eg. taking vital signs like blood pressure, height and weight). * Assist physicians during examinations and procedures, as required. * Perform basic point-of-care testing as directed (eg. urine dipsticks, rapid strep tests, glucose checks). * Ensure client medical records are updated, maintained according to privacy standards and available for attending physicians. * Review, organize and flag incoming lab results, diagnostic imaging and specialist notes for physician review and sign-off. * Process, send and track outpatient specialist referrals and coordinate diagnostic testing appointments for clients. * Manage pharmacy fax requests and process physician-approved prescription renewals. * Submit and track medical billing claims (eg. provincial or private insurance) and process payments for non-insured services. * Monitor and order clinical and office supplies to keep inventory adequately stocked. * Duties as assigned. EDUCATION: * The successful candidate will possess a minimum of three years recent Medical Office Assistant experience. * Experience with HealthQuest is an asset. * A Medical Office Assistant certificate is required. * Medical Terminology Certificate is an asset. * An interest in a Family Health Clinic environment is preferred. All successful candidates must have, prior to start date: * A current and clear Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Check that has been obtained no more than 90 calendar days prior to the hire date. * A tuberculosis screening that has been completed no more than 12 months prior to the hire date.
