Job Description: POSITION PURPOSE SUMMARY: The Thrift Store Worker is primarily responsible to assist in the efficient and effective reclamation, processing or distribution of donated goods for the Ingersoll Thrift Store. Accountabilities: Operations Protect the integrity of all donated items. Process raw materials by loading/unloading, sorting, packing, storing, loading and baling donations. Interact with customers/donors in a positive, friendly and courteous manner. Contribute to meeting store sales targets; provide efficient courteous customer service; use tact and courtesy when dealing with difficult donors/customers. Possess knowledge of stock prices and featured sale products in order to respond to customer enquiries. Assist donors with their donations, unload donations, and place stock in appropriate warehouse locations. Select donations for store distribution meeting established standards of quality and distinguishing between discarded/recycled and good quality merchandise according to company standards; ensure that all products are priced correctly as per store policy. Replenish inventory levels, i.e. hang clothing and restocking of merchandise as directed Pay attention to store security, by monitoring activity within the store. Categorize and box seasonal clothing, housewares, shoes etc. for storing. Abide by store policy and procedures. Work with volunteers as assigned. Communications Inform your supervisor of all donor/customer complaints, comments and concerns regarding customer service, prices, merchandise, etc. Health & Safety Maintain an attractive organized appearance of the warehouse area, tidy up and clean, sweep, dust and mop as necessary, both inside and the exterior donation area at the rear of the building ensuring compliance with the health and safety standards. Handle the merchandise in a safe and organized manner; assist in stock rotation – “baling” items in the store. Perform other position related duties. CRITICAL RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT: · Internal relationships: Corps Officer, volunteers, staff · External relationships: Community MANAGERIAL/TECHNICAL LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITY: This position reports directly to the Community Ministries Coordinator or designate FINANCIAL AND MATERIALS MANAGEMENT: Contribute to store budgets by maintaining customer service standards. Assist with the materials management of donations/product flow in the thrift store. WORKING CONDITIONS: This is a temporary part-time contract position based on 20 hours per week. Schedule may vary from week to week and include weekdays and Saturday’s. Flexibility in scheduling is required. Mandatory requirement for steel-toe safety boots or shoes. Universal precautions; safety gloves. Ability to stand for long periods with frequent twisting, bending, crouching and reaching is required. Ability to lift/move 40 pounds. Normal hours of work: Work will be scheduled as per the Thrift Store operational requirements between work hours of Monday-Wednesday and Saturday between 9:30a.m. to 5:00p.m., or Thursday-Friday between 9:30a.m. to 8:00p.m. with a ½ hour unpaid meal break where applicable. Your supervisor sets the hours of work and work schedule and flexibility in scheduling is required. Education, Qualifications and Certifications: Completion of Secondary School. Alternative combinations of education and experience may be considered. Experience and Skilled Knowledge Requirements: Have a minimum of three (3) months of prior related experience in warehouse processing or good distribution and knowledge of lifting guidelines. Brand awareness would be a definite asset. Knowledge and experience using a cash register, debit machine and/or credit card processing is a definite asset. Skills and Capabilities: Attention to detail, problem solving and analytical skills. Self-motivated/disciplined. Lead by example, by demonstrating a strong work ethic and a willingness to learn and be flexible in the face of change. Ability to maintain information in confidence and exercise good judgement. Demonstrated ability to work independently and participate as an active and responsible team member in a cooperative team environment. Excellent interpersonal skills, integrity, and adaptability. Exhibit good listening skills, have strong oral/written communication skills. Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion (i.e., The Salvation Army Abuse Registry) and provide an original copy of a Background Check screening. Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and its implications as related to position responsibilities. Normal location of work is at: 48 Charles Street West, Unit 2, Ingersoll, ON N5C 2L6 Compensation: The target hiring range for this position is $17.95 to $20.89 with a maximum of $23.82. Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions, internal equity, and candidate experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
