Job summary

Job title: Library Assistant Competition number: 1350 Administrative unit: Jean-Léon Allie Library and Archives Immediate supervisor: Librarian, Head of User Services Job type: Work-Study Program Contract Work schedule: 10 hours per week from September 1, 2026, to April 25, 2027. Shift schedules are Monday to Thursday from 4pm to 9pm, and Saturdays and Sundays from 12pm to 5pm. Pay rate: Undergraduate: $17.60/hour + 4% of holiday pay Graduate (Master): $20.24/hour + 4% of holiday pay Graduate (P hD): $22.88/hour + 4% of holiday pay About us Jean-Léon Allie Library and Archives is a research library serving Saint Paul University and the public. We house over 500 000 books, the largest theological collection in Canada and 50+ archival fonds. About the role As a library assistant, you'll be the first point of contact for clients at the library's service desk. You'll check books in and out, help clients use meeting rooms and other library facilities, help clients find materials, guide them on how to use the library catalogue for research, and provide basic instruction on using the technology and software available at the library. You'll also contribute to tasks such as shelving, digitization, and assistance with special projects. Please note that this role requires working independently and you will usually be the only staff member on duty during your shift. Must-have qualifications * Fluently bilingual in French and English. * Enrolled in full-time studies at Saint Paul University for the duration of the contract. * Legally entitled to work in Canada. * Minimum 3 months of experience working in a client services setting. Nice-to-have qualifications * Experience working in a library. * Experience shelving library materials according to the Library of Congress Classification System. * Experience working with digital office tools (i.e. Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, etc.). * Experience working independently in a work or volunteer setting. Skills and abilities * Strong client service orientation and ability to adapt to the diverse communication styles of our university community. * Navigate client interactions with tact, patience, and understanding. * Technological knowledge to support clients with their use of printing equipment, library systems, and various softwares. * Resourceful and able to work independently. * Demonstrated ability to learn new skills, procedures, and systems.
