Job summary
Leisure Ice Monitor Volunteers help supervise Leisure Ice during drop-in skating times. Volunteers are required to skate and should be comfortable on the ice. This position includes helping make Leisure Ice a welcoming area by talking to patrons, playing music, and helping ensure everyone is safe and following the rules. Responsibilities: * Skate for the majority of the shift * Enforce Leisure Ice rules * Engage with patrons and ensure they are enjoying their experience * Provide and monitor appropriate music * Keep all patrons off the ice during flood times * Radio/report any issues to the appropriate staff member * Be helpful and courteous to staff and patrons and direct patrons appropriately if they have questions * Always wear a CSA-certified winter helmet while on the ice, and provide your own skates * Check messages and communicate regularly with supervisors * Log hours on the appropriate time sheet * Be reliable and punctual (arrive ready for shift in proper uniform) Qualities: * Willing to learn new processes and follow procedures * Enthusiastic, welcoming, and comfortable speaking to children and adults * Comfortable and confident on the ice Work Term: * September – March * Evenings and weekends * 2 shifts/week. Shifts are 2-3 hours long Qualifications/ Skills Required: * Between 13 and 17 years of age * Completion of minimum of Emergency First Aid with CPR C or Lifesaving Society Bronze Medallion Certification * Completion of Volunteer Training – Provided by Westside * Proficient skating ability and provide your own ice skates and CSA-certified winter helmet
