Facebook Twitter Like Posted Date: July 30, 2025 Closing date: August 8, 2025 Position type: Permanent - part time Status: Accepting Applications Description The Handyman or Handyperson is critical in supporting the Conklin housing program and the Housing Operations Manager by providing general maintenance, repairs, and improvement to CRDAC owned properties and as approved by the Housing Operations Manager. Reporting directly to the Housing Operations Manager, duties may vary depending on skill and ability and may include preparation of walls, ceilings, and floors for general improvements, minor repairs to heating, cooling, plumbing, and electrical systems, grounds and equipment maintenance, and provide recommendations for more specialized workers for complex repairs. Hours of Work This is a permanent and part-time position, working up to thirty (30) hours per week and reporting to the Housing Operations Manager. The CRDAC will work with the incumbent to develop a flexible schedule to accommodate irregular hours and be available on-call as required, including weekends and evenings. This position will be working from Conklin at the CRDAC Office located at 114 Father Mercredi’s Trail. Key Areas of Responsibilities Preparation and General Improvements: Assist with general improvements and/or renovations including basic carpentry, repairs of windows and doors, preparation and painting of walls and ceilings, installation of and repairs to drywalls, and preparation and installation of flooring. Minor or General Repairs: Installation of structures, fixtures, and fittings on-site, conduct general or minor repairs of fixtures and structures made of wood or other materials, assembly of furniture or other fixtures, as required. Conduct minor repairs to plumbing (i.e. leaky faucets), electrical, and HVAC systems, replacement of light fixtures, as needed and approved by management. Grounds and Equipment Maintenance: General groundskeeping of common areas including lawn maintenance, pruning of shrubs or trees, and spraying trees and plants to protect from insects and diseases. Example of specific duties include planting greenery, cutting and maintaining healthy growth of plants and grass, and keeping the common grounds clean and well-manicured. Keep storage areas, equipment, and company vehicles (if applicable) neat, operable, and clean. Liaison for Subcontractors: Liaising with tenants, suppliers, and other tradespeople on issues like budgets, timelines, and raw materials. Preventative Maintenance and Efficiency: Help identify and initiate preventative maintenance where appropriate and as outlined in policy (if applicable) including finding ways to reduce costs of equipment and supplies. Source/Order Supplies: Source lumber and supplies/parts like nails, batteries, screws, hinges, and other construction materials. The incumbent will be responsible for managing all inventory and supplies including receivership, organization, storage, and facilitation of regular inventory audits on a periodic basis. Inspections and Reporting: Assist in the regular and as-needed inspections including the inspections of finished structures and consulting with subcontractors or tradespeople, as required. Develop maintenance reports and service requests. Working Conditions This Position Is Physically Demanding Where It Requires The Incumbent To Perform Daily Tasks That Involve Strength, Endurance, And Dexterity. Tasks Will Include Varying Physical Demands Such As lifting, carrying or moving materials that may be considered heavy; frequent bending and kneeling with accompanying repetitive movements; using and working with specialized tools; maintaining balance; reaching, pulling, and pushing; and entering and maneuvering in tight spaces such as crawlspaces. Qualifications And Skills Five (5) years of working and practical experience in the construction trades including and not limited to carpentry, plumbing, landscaping, or similar line of work is required; Secondary diploma or GED is preferred but not required. Vocational training through an apprenticeship program under the guidance of more experienced professionals is considered an asset; Proficient knowledge in basic math and geometry and the ability to read blueprints, plans, and diagrams; Must have good attention to detail and the ability to troubleshoot and diagnose problems with variety of appliances and equipment. Must be able to demonstrate a strong ability to solve problems by finding solutions to unexpected problems; Strong understanding and ability to safely use hand and power tools, machinery, and other necessary equipment to conduct duties as outlined; Must be reliable and punctual to build rapport and trust; Ability to keep track of expenses and follow a budget; Comfortable using Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint; Excellent verbal and written communication skills; Strong customer service skills; The incumbent will be asked to complete a criminal record check and are expected to conduct themselves ethically and with a high degree of professionalism and respect for others; Ability to work independently as a self-directed professional as well as work in a team environment; Ability to speak Cree is considered a desired asset; and A class 5 driver’s license is required. Compensation And Benefits Hourly rate between $45 and $55 per hour and will be negotiated based on candidate’s level of relevant experience.
