Casual- Enhanced Supervision Residence Worker (Dogwood)

ROLE PURPOSE This position will provide casework, residential and community support to residents of the Connective’s programs, using a harm reduction model, who are requiring enhanced support due to active addiction and involvement with the criminal justice system. This role provides enhanced support to residence in order to enhance their quality of life, to ensure the orderly and safe operation of the facility, and to maintain the goals of the counselling and/or rehabilitative plans. STATUS AND CLASSIFICATION Unionized. This position is open to applicants of all genders. HOURS Casual Shifts would be made up of; Day - 0800-1600 Evening - 1600-0000 Overnights - 0000-0800 As a residential casual you would need to provide availability for - 21 shifts (7 days) / month – 7 overnight 15 shifts (5 days) / month – 5 overnights - if holding a FT job or student KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES Provides input to the Program Manager and/or other staff regarding the development of appropriate care plans to achieve residents’ objectives Ensures residents follow the terms of their residency and are aware of the rules of the facility Develops interpersonal therapeutic relationships with psychiatric patients Uses professional judgment to ascertain and to apply appropriate intervention techniques with residents in crisis Provides emotional support and feedback to residents and their families When assigned, participates in social, recreational, employment, educational and other programs as appropriate to assist residents’ case/care plans Acts as a positive role model for residents, providing life skills training and behaviour management as appropriate Works in a high stress environment, often dealing with clients in crisis situations EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS Diploma, preferably in behavioural sciences, social work, community social services or criminology or equivalent with one-year related experience Two years related experience Advanced knowledge of de-escalation strategies for client in active addiction Knowledge of the criminal justice system Experience in the appropriate field and demonstrate a clear ability to respond well in crisis situations Knowledge and ability to integrate anti-oppression, anti-racist, trauma-informed, critical disability, LGBTQ2S-positivity, harm reduction, recovery approach in support to mental health and strengths-based principles into practice. Experience with FASD, ADHD, autism spectrum, aggressive and self-harming behaviour Understands the challenges of living with a hearing disability An understanding of the intergenerational impacts of the residential school systems, colonization and the various Indigenous Nations, practices and ceremonies. Familiarity with youth development stages and the impacts on adulthood An understanding of providing service to people with different learning abilities Demonstrated experience in an applicable residential setting Demonstrated a good working knowledge of the technical details important to the functioning of group residences Experience with Residents An awareness of Community Living of British Columbia (the contractor) concerns, laws, and policies related to the specific residence program Demonstrated ability to teach skills and work effectively with others Knowledge of theory, principles, and practices in the fields related to the particular residence Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English REQUIREMENTS Ability to successfully pass a reference check Experience working with aggressive clients, addictions and/or in a shelter setting Current Emergency First Aid Certificate (please refer to the Certificates accepted in B.C. - WorkSafeBC) Valid class 5 driver’s license Proof of vaccination for communicable diseases may be required as mandated by Government, Health Authority, and/or funder requirements COMPENSATION As Connective is a unionized environment, the starting wage is $30.95 per hour. Plus benefits enrollment as per the Collective Agreement. Important: Candidates must be legally authorized to work in Canada, observe their weekly hours limit if under a temporary or study visa, and provide proof of eligibility if selected for the role. Provide casework, residential, and community support to residents using a harm reduction model while ensuring the safe operation of the facility. Develop therapeutic relationships, implement care plans, and assist residents with social, recreational, and life skills training.

Requires a diploma in behavioural sciences, social work, or criminology with at least one year of related experience. Must possess a valid class 5 driver's license, current Emergency First Aid certificate, and the ability to pass a reference check.
