Your Opportunity:
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Health Care Aide (HCA) to join our nursing team at Vegreville Care Centre. Our cottage‑style facility features five cottages—four non-secure units and one secure unit with 12 residents per cottage. Built in 2008, the facility offers 60 private beds and is thoughtfully designed to support resident comfort, safety, and well-being. Amenities include private bathrooms and showers, spacious common living areas, and a full lift track system to promote dignity and safe care delivery. As a Health Care Aide, you will be an integral member of a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team. In this role, you will provide personal assistance and support with activities of daily living, in accordance with individualized care plans and facility policies and procedures. As an HCA, you will assist residents with daily living activities, including hygiene, nutrition, and mobility, support recreational and therapeutic activities and programs, assist nurses and regulated health professionals in delivering routine care, maintain a safe, respectful, and supportive environment for residents, staff, and visitors, communicate effectively with the care team to ensure high-quality resident care. Working under the supervision of a regulated health professional, you will play a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for residents while maintaining a safe and compassionate care environment. Description:
As a Health Care Aide (HCA), you will work as a collaborative member of the multidisciplinary team, providing personal assistance by supporting activities of daily living and delivering support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short term assistance or ongoing support, in accordance with the patient care plan and facility policies and procedures. In this role, you will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers across the continuum of care in home, community, and health care facilities. You will assist nurses with the provision of routine care to meet patients' hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation, and safety needs; assist with organized activities or programs; and observe and report on patients' mood, health, and wellbeing. Working under the supervision of a regulated health professional, you will assist in maintaining a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors, while supporting effective communication with patients and health care professionals. PLEASE NOTE: Until a new hire provides proof of HCA certification, they will be paid at the uncertified pay grade in accordance with the AUPE AUX Collective Agreement.

Required Qualifications:
Active or eligible for registration or practice permit with the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA) as a Health Care Aide, along with proof of education or completion of Health Care Aide Certificate within 18 months of hire.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Must hold current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification and be able to provide proof of such certification. In addition, the incumbent will be expected to demonstrate proficiency in the following areas: Actively integrates Patient and Family Centered Care principles into practice. Excellent communication skills in order to work collaboratively with members of the multidisciplinary team and accept direction as required. Demonstrates critical thinking, conflict resolution and problem-solving skills. Excellent time management and prioritization skills. Compliance with the AHS Hand Hygiene policies. Demonstrates behaviors consistent with the values of AHS - compassion, accountability, respect, excellence, and safety.
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of the Continuing Care Health Services Standards (CCHSS) for Continuing Care. Minimum of 1 year of Health Care Aide experience in the past 5 years preferred.
