POSITION SUMMARY:
The Wellness Coordinator promotes overall health and wellness by planning, preparing, and implementing wellness-focused activities for children and their families. Working alongside educators within the Child Development Centre, this role supports children’s physical, social, and emotional well-being through engaging activities, inclusive play, and positive daily interactions. The Wellness Coordinator assists with daily childcare operations of the Centre by helping supervise children during indoor and outdoor play, supporting meal times, and reinforcing safe practices and healthy habits within the program.

Reports to the Manager, Child Development Centre
LOCATION:
Child Development Centre – Downtown Wall St. Location.
HOURS OF WORK:
Part-time summer term position; 7.5 hours per week

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Promote Health and Wellness

Plan and implement daily physical activity programs that support gross motor development and active play

Encourage outdoor play and movement-based learning experiences

Support children’s emotional well-being and social development
-
Develop and lead wellness initiatives, including movement, mindfulness, and healthy routines
-
Support Daily Childcare Routines
-
Help supervise children during both indoor and outdoor play.

Support smooth transitions between activities and daily routines
-
Promote safety, encourage positive social interactions
-
Encourage Healthy Habits
-
Model proper handwashing and basic hygiene
-
Support healthy meal time routines
-
Teach simple wellness concepts, including hydration, nutrition, and sun safety
-
Encourage healthy eating habits
-
Administrative Tasks and Educator Support
-
Keep parents engaged and up-to-date through the bulletin Board, newsletter, and announcements.

Monitor play areas for hazards and report to educators.

Prepare children’s activity calendar
-
Perform other related administrative and operational duties as required
-
Prepare resources for parents that include simple activities, healthy meal ideas, wellness tips, and other strategies to support parents.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Must be between the ages of 15 to 30 years old. This position is made available through the Canada Summer Jobs Program, which outlines this eligibility requirement;
- Strong understanding of children’s development, wellness, and age-appropriate activities;
- Experience working with children is considered an asset;
- Strong communication and teamwork skills;
- Ability to support a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment for children and families;
- Current First-Aid and CPR Certificate;
- Valid Food safety certification;
- Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check required.
