Summary

CCIS, is seeking a Rohingya Language Interpreter and accepting applications from qualified job seekers. To provide interpretation and translation services to the CCIS Resettlement & Integration Service (RIS) Division clients and employees in the areas of settlement, health services, legal services, education, and employment. Interpretation and translation may be provided in individual or group settings, and work may be performed at various locations, and sometimes over the phone or virtually.

Description

Responsibilities:

  • Accurately convey messages from one language to another for individuals and/or groups that are engaged in CCIS service delivery to facilitate communication between all parties involved.
  • Interpret information that is given to all the parties during an assignment.
  • Provide document translation as requested by CCIS RIS staff.
  • Explain your role as an interpreter to clients, external and internal stakeholders, before engaging in service provision.
  • Perform work in a way that aligns with CCIS’s Code of Conduct, Code of Ethics and the standards established for interpreters/translators.
  • Adhere to the strict terms of the confidentiality agreement with all parties.
  • Always maintain confidentiality and/refrain from personal or other opinions related to the client, external stakeholder, during or after the assignment, with others.
  • Represent CCIS during all assignments with clients, internal and external stakeholders, in a professional manner.
  • Accept assignments originating only through designated CCIS RIS personnel.
  • Report on all situations that may be identified as a conflict of interest.
  • Attend required programs for professional development training and meetings that are recommended by your supervisor.
  • Complete monthly sheets by the 20th of each month and submit them on time as per agency policy.
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures of the CCIS, including Health & Safety, Human Resources, Finance, and Organizational ones.

Qualifications:

  • Fluent and proficient language skills in both English and the other language(s) hired to provide interpretation/translation for.
  • Bachelor’s degree in the Humanities or related field.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Experience working with Newcomers and Immigrants.
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment, occasionally on short notice.
  • Able to provide interpretation services in person/on location and virtually (by phone and/or MS Teams/Zoom).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and other digital platforms.
  • Experience in interpretation and translation is highly desired.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
  • Must have a valid police record with (Vulnerable Sector Search).

RIS (Resettlement & Integration Services) division

Our RIS division provides support services that enable Government-Assisted Refugees (GARs) to transition to a new life in Calgary. RIS also offers several programs specific to refugee children and youth. RIS programs are designed to assist in developing our clients' independence, building capacity within the family structure, and enhancing our clients’ economic success. Our team of multicultural counsellors provides settlement assistance in over 80 languages.
