Role Description The Freelance Journalist at Authors Radio is a part-time, on-site role based in Toronto, ON, focused on developing and delivering compelling literary and culture-focused journalism. Responsibilities include researching story ideas, conducting interviews, and producing news articles, features, and segments tailored to Authors Radio’s audience. The role involves writing and editing press releases, preparing scripts for on-air use, and supporting broadcasting activities such as live or recorded segments. The journalist will collaborate with producers and editorial staff to ensure content aligns with editorial standards, deadlines, and the overall programming strategy. The position requires strong time management, consistent communication with the editorial team, and the ability to adapt quickly to changing priorities in a media environment.
Qualifications Strong writing and news writing skills, with the ability to produce clear, accurate, and engaging journalistic content. Experience preparing press releases and promotional copy that align with brand and editorial guidelines. Proficient research skills, including sourcing, fact-checking, and verifying information from diverse channels. Comfort with broadcasting environments, including preparing scripts and contributing to live or recorded segments. Background in journalism, communications, media, or a related field; previous experience in radio or audio media is an asset. Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced setting. Strong interpersonal skills for conducting interviews and collaborating with authors, guests, and team members.
