ROLE
The Registered Technologist - X-Ray and BMD is responsible for the safe, effective and efficient performance of a variety of procedures in the areas of X-Ray and BMD. The MRT will use independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative in the application of ionizing radiation. He/she will work together with the Senior Technologist, Interventional Radiology and Student Coordinator regarding supervision and evaluation of student technologists.
REQUIRED EDUCATION & CERTIFICATION(S)
- Graduate of an accredited Radiological Technology program required
- Current registration in good standing with the College of Medical Radiation and Imaging Technologists of Ontario required
- Current CPR certification required
- CBMD certification / ADT accreditation or equivalent preferred, with willingness to acquire required
REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE(S)
- Maintaining an effective working relationship with patients, physicians, hospital staff and the public
- Demonstrated commitment to his/her ongoing professional development and continuing education (i.e., awareness of one’s own personal/professional education needs, and self-initiation of actions to meet those needs)
- Demonstrated ability to act quickly and effectively when dealing with emergencies with patients and staff
- Able to exercise courtesy and understanding in dealing with patients, medical personnel, visitors, and staff members of other departments
- Able to recognize and react appropriately, both mentally and physically, to emergent/critical situations, incidents and adverse reactions. This would encompass following Hospital/Departmental policies & procedures, maintaining a calm and professional composure and assuming a leadership role when required to support staff
- Able to react to unpredictable situations with critically/acutely ill patients having physical limitations, to ensure patient safety
- Quality Control processes for all equipment related to X-Ray and BMD
- Knowledge of all equipment and auxiliary products used in X-Ray and BMD
DESIRED SKILLS, EXPERIENCE(S) & EDUCATION
- Registration with the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists or Ontario Association of Medical Radiation Sciences preferred
- Previous experience in General Radiography and BMD preferred
