Part-Time Academic position

The School Of Engineering & Technology Is Seeking Qualified Professionals To Join The Civil Engineering Technology Program Team To Teach The Following Courses Part-time From September 2026 To December 2026

Surveying I (SURV1010) - This course introduces the student to plane surveying as it applies to the construction industry. It deals with the language of surveying, places an emphasis on field work with basic surveying instruments to provide an understanding and familiarity with the measurement and recording of survey information and the processing of that information Surveying II (SURV2010) - This course enhances the student's ability to understand and apply surveying procedures in the field of engineered construction. Emphasis is placed on Total Station surveying and its integration with AutoCAD. The principles of circular and vertical highway curves are studied as preparation for Highway Technology. The total station and data collectors (on-board and/or external) are introduced.

Successful candidates will be required to conduct work within Ontario and must be available to work on campus as required. Conestoga offers classes Monday through Sunday from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., both in person and online. Part-time Professors typically teach one to two courses. Courses are approximately three to six hours per week in the classroom for a 14-week term.

Responsibilities

Ensure program and course curriculum are current, relevant, and reflective of best practices in the field Design appropriate strategies and tools for facilitating and evaluating student progress and achievement Carry out regularly scheduled instruction according to the format prescribed for the course, including online, classroom, and computer-assisted lab lessons Ensure student awareness of course objectives, instructional approach, and evaluation systems Evaluate student progress/achievement, assuming responsibility for the overall assessment of student work within the assigned course, and maintain records as required Support students in the use of eConestoga, the learning management system (D2L), as well as maintain course materials within this system Create and maintain a positive learning environment which supports the diversity of students’ cultures, educational backgrounds, and learning styles Work in a collaborative, collegial manner both within the department and across the college

Qualifications

A three-year diploma or degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, Geomatics, Surveying, or a related field of study is required C.E.T., OLS, or P.Eng. are considered an asset Minimum five years of experience in civil engineering, construction engineering, geomatics or surveying industry Advanced knowledge of computer-assisted design software, surveying and geomatics, geographic information systems, and land development is required Ability to use Theodolites and Levels and conventional Total Stations are required Ability to use GNSS equipment, preferably Trimble TSC data collectors, experience with robotic total stations, laser levels, and UAV (drones equipped with LIDAR and Photogrammetry) is considered an asset Experience with computer systems (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite) and educational technologies (e.g., D2L) is preferred Demonstrated exceptional presentation, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of an academic team Demonstrated ability to relate to learners and provide a positive learning environment to students working at different skill levels, including international students and students requiring accommodation, is an asset Strong commitment to academic excellence, student success, and ability to support Conestoga’s continuous quality improvement initiatives

Compensation is determined using a standardized wage calculation that considers education, relevant industry experience, and teaching experience. Part-Time Professors are paid an hourly rate based on Teaching Contact Hours (up to 6 hours per week). This rate is inclusive of all academic responsibilities, including course preparation, delivery, and evaluation. The posted hourly rate represents an estimated range. Successful candidates will receive an individualized wage calculation at the time of offer.
