Climbing Wall Instructor/Monitor (Summer Camps)
About the role
Westside Recreation Centre is a world-class facility based on a lifestyle and wellness concept. Since 2000, we have been providing families with high quality and accessible recreation facilities, programs and services.
The Climbing Wall Instructor/Monitor position has the responsibility to provide quality leadership for a variety of climbing wall programs at Westside. Primary responsibilities include program instruction and belaying during open time. Other duties can include: volunteer supervision, program planning and administration, promotions, and risk management implementation.
Position Description

Supervise and oversee program and drop-in participants in the climbing wall

Provide supervision for uncertified instructors and volunteers

Provide new guests and members with Climbing Wall Orientation

Provide belay tests to those participants with previous climbing experience

Provide excellent customer service and climbing wall information to our customers

Belay during open climbing hours

Belay during birthday parties and rentals

Instruct climbing wall programs for children, youth and adults

Ensure the safety of all participants

Assist with route setting
ADMINISTRATIVE:
-
Take daily attendance of program participants
-
Lesson plan based on course requirements
-
Attend any staff meetings/additional training
-
Maintain written record/reports as necessary

Answer any public inquires and/or complaints
-
Administrative duties as required
RISK MANAGEMENT:
-
Complete Incident Report Forms as required
-
Assist in weekly safety and inventory checks
-
Ensure waiver forms have been signed by a parent or legal guardian

Follow all general facility rules related to general behavior, demeanor, use and care of facility areas, criminal activity

Maintain equipment
PHYSICAL/PSYCHOLOGICAL DEMANDS:

Ability to work in a fast-paced noisy environment

Ability to work inside as well as outside when required

Ability to lift 20-25 lbs on a daily basis

Must be able to belay for long periods of time

QUALIFICATIONS

Current CSA Standard Z1210-17 Intermediate First Aid

Must be of 18 years of age or older
-
Minimum 6 months indoor or outdoor climbing experience

High 5 is considered an asset
-
Have CGI (Climbing Gym Instructor) Level 1 ACMG certification, or active CWI (Climbing Wall Instructor) Levels 1&2 CWA certification or actively working towards getting certified
WORK TERM:
- Part-time, evening and weekend shifts available
