Job Description & Requirements

  • Please note: this position is combined with Competition S2604008 EA - Life Skills 2.75 hour. Applicants are required to apply to both competitions.

Purpose of Position

The Educational Assistant - Vocational provides classroom support in the areas of student management and teacher support as outlined in the job profile.

Duties and Responsibilities

Are established by the School Principal within the parameters of the job profile.

NOTE: Positions under the EA classification are subject to change based on student needs.

Required Qualifications

  • Grade 12 education or equivalent.
  • Educational Assistant Certificate or equivalent 1 to 2 years related experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to follow standardized work methods and processes while working with children to support learning.
  • Demonstrated ability to function in the language of classroom instruction.
  • Demonstrated ability to function at the level of knowledge required of the students, e.g., in English, Mathematics, etc., including reading and writing.
  • Effective basic computer skills.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills to work directly with students in a classroom environment, including the ability to motivate, explain and manage potentially difficult/emotional situations, and to work collaboratively with parents, teachers, and other staff..
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a vocational setting.
  • Class 5 Driver’s license.
  • First Aid, CPR Certification.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated skills relative to the vocation, culinary or trade.
  • WHMIS training/Certification.
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work independently.
  • Effective customer service experience.
  • Flexible to change in work schedule.
