About the role
Join TEAM GREEN at GFL Environmental and become our newest part-time Transfer Station Attendant in Red Deer County, AB! Thursday & Saturday from 8:30 AM – 5:30 PM and 3 hours on some Wednesdays. Job Summary The Transfer Station Attendant oversees daily site operations, handles customer transactions, inspects incoming waste, and operates heavy equipment to manage the tipping floor and load transport trailers. Key Responsibilities Opening & Closing Duties: Open gates, set up payment registers, and perform pre-shift safety checks. At end of shift, reconcile cash drawers, secure buildings/containers, and lock facility gates. Load Screening & Traffic Control: Inspect incoming vehicles to ensure loads contain accepted waste. Reject hazardous/prohibited materials and safely direct traffic on the tipping floor. Cash & Fee Processing: Calculate disposal fees based on volume/vehicle size, collect payment (cash/cheque), issue receipts, and balance the cash till daily. Pushing Waste: Operate skid steer to push, consolidate, and stack waste on the tipping floor. Loading Walking Floors: Use a Bobcat skid steer to top-load waste efficiently into walking-floor trailers to legal weight limits. Site Maintenance & Safety: Perform pre-use equipment checks, maintain PPE standards, and perform routine cleanup (sweeping, litter pick-up, snow removal). Requirements Experience: 1+ years operating heavy equipment (backhoe/loader) and cash-handling experience. Licensing: Valid Driver’s License required; equipment certifications are a plus. Reliable Transportation: Must have reliable transportation to ensure punctual arrival for all scheduled shifts. Autonomous Work: Strong ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and operate unsupervised or alone. Skills: Basic math for calculating fees and making accurate change; ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and lift up to 50 lbs.
