Position Title: Child and Youth Worker Job Type: Permanent ( 10 months/year from September 1 – June 30). Option 1: 17.5 hours per week (Monday to Friday, 2- 5:30 or 2:15-5:45 p.m.) Option 2: 17.5 hours per week (Monday to Friday, 2:30- 6:00 or 2:45-6:15 p.m.) Direction: Family & Community Services Location: In person at various locations Reporting to: Manager of Children and Youth Services Compensation: $25.57 / H plus Full Benefits, HOOPP Pension plan, health, dental, vision, LTD and life insurance, paid vacation plus additional paid time off. About us We are Somerset West Community Health Centre (SWCHC), a non-profit, community-governed organization that serves over 18,000 clients annually. Established in 1978, SWCHC provides a wide range of health care services such as primary health care, health promotion, community development, mental health, and harm reduction. What You’ll Do The Child and Youth Worker will coordinate and facilitate community based child and youth programs. The Child and Youth Worker will provide educational services, support and advocacy, and participate in the development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of age and culturally appropriate programs to help meet the needs of children, youth and their families using a capacity building and health promotion framework.
What We’re Looking For
Life and Work Experience Minimum 2 years experience in child and youth work
Your Education Path Child and Youth Worker or Early Childhood Education Diploma Required Language Fluency in English required. Working knowledge of French an asset, Job Option 2 Must speak French, job Option 1
Specific requirements Criminal Reference check for working with vulnerable populations Current CPR level C, First Aid and Food Handlers Certification
What You Bring to the Table Adequate energy level and ability to meet the physical demands of the job Working knowledge and use of major computer programs Strong knowledge of child development and behaviour guidance techniques Effective at communicating and problem solving
Your Day-to-Day at a Glance As our Child and Youth Worker your responsibilities are:
Direct service with children 6-12 years at an After School Program Plans programs that enhance cognitive, physical, social, and emotional development Implement, monitor, and evaluate community based programs, providing required stats to Lead Child and Youth Worker and entering groups information into database Provide updates and contact with parents when necessary Monitor and maintain/purchase adequate supplies and equipment for programming Create linkages with available community resources i.e. local schools, recreation centres Ensure all program safety measures are being met Works closely with and support program staff, volunteers, and student placements
