About the role

BCIT’s Ecological Restoration (ER) BSc Program (within the School of Construction and the Environment) is seeking a temporary, part-time (0.2 FTE**) Instructor** to teach Geospatial Applications in Natural Resource Management (RENR 7010) in the Fall 2026 Term.

The ER BSc is a 2-year degree completion program (years 3 and 4). The program provides graduates with a world-class foundation in the fundamental science, applied knowledge, and technical skills needed to successfully manage degraded ecosystems. Students work with our many professional partners on a wide range of applied projects, thereby gaining experience in addressing many current environmental challenges. Graduates have an excellent track record of securing positions with consulting companies, nonprofit organizations, as well as all levels of government, including First Nations.

Duties & Responsibilities

DUTIESANDRESPONSIBILITIES**:**

General responsibilities will include all aspects related to teaching this course, including delivering lectures, facilitating applied learning, assessing student work, and mentoring students. The successful candidate will be provided course materials, which can be modified to suit the candidate’s strengths/experience. Other responsibilities will be based on the strengths of the successful candidate and the needs of the program. Experience using geospatial assessments/analyses in the environmental sciences is a very strong advantage.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS**:**

  • Minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree in geospatial sciences, ecology, environmental science, geography, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with GIS software (specifically ArcGIS Pro) and GNSS, including recent field and/or operational experience applying, analyzing, and interpreting geospatial data within an environmental or natural resource discipline.
  • Strong candidates with other relevant combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • Knowledge of best practices for teaching, advising, and mentoring students in a higher education environment.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in both an independent capacity as well as part of a collegial team.
  • Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability, which are needed to effectively manage the dynamic conditions and logistics associated with our applied programs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Graduate credentials in geospatial sciences, ecology, environmental science, geography, or a related field.

  • Strong preference for a demonstrated ability to teach effectively at the post-secondary level in both classroom and field settings.

  • Knowledge of and experience with the ecosystems of British Columbia and principles of environmental management.

  • Experience teaching and/or working with First Nations.

$65,045 - $113,545 per annum

Additional Salary Information

Salary prorated based on percentage and term of appointment. Salary based on education, experience and placement criteria as outlined in the Collective Agreement.
