Role Description The Activity Aide is part time and casual , on-site role based in Sault Ste. Marie, ON. The person in this role supports the planning and delivery of daily recreation and social programs that promote resident engagement, independence, and well-being. Day-to-day tasks include assisting with group and individual activities, preparing materials and spaces, transporting or escorting residents to programs, and documenting participation and feedback. The Activity Aide collaborates with the care team to tailor activities to residents’ abilities and interests, encourages participation in a respectful manner, and follows safety and infection control guidelines. Additional responsibilities may include supporting special events, communicating program information to residents and families, and helping with orientation of new residents to activity offerings. Qualifications Strong Communication and Customer Service skills to interact effectively and respectfully with residents, families, and colleagues. Experience or education in Recreation and activity planning, with the ability to support engaging group and one-on-one programs. Knowledge of Elder Care principles and practices, with a resident-centered approach and sensitivity to cognitive and physical changes. Ability to participate in and deliver Training related to activities, safety procedures, and resident support. Empathy, patience, and a genuine interest in working with older adults in a long-term care or retirement setting. Strong organizational skills, reliability, and the ability to follow schedules and care plans. Basic computer and documentation skills to record attendance and activity outcomes. Previous experience in a retirement home, long-term care facility, or community recreation setting is an asset. Relevant post-secondary education or certification in recreation, social services, or a related field is considered an advantage.
