Nursing Instructor - Bachelor of Science in Psychiatric Nursing
POSITION TYPE: NR 2 Part-Time (53.5% FTE)
POSITION START: September 1, 2026
The Faculty of Health at Kwantlen Polytechnic University invites applications for one part-time (53.5%) NR2 appointment position for the Bachelor in Psychiatric Nursing Program (BPN). The appointment is for the period September 1, 2026 to August 31, 2027. NR2 Faculty are entitled to paid vacation leave, professional development leave and benefits.

The Bachelor of Psychiatric Nursing (BPN) program at Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) is a fully recognized program accredited by the British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM). The program prepares students for professional psychiatric nursing practice in diverse mental health and community settings, with a strong emphasis on health promotion, therapeutic relationships, and principles of diversity, equity, and social justice.

Position Overview
Fall 2026 (September Term)
HEAL 2150 : Health Lab Practice
Students will build upon previous lab skills performance. They will practice skills in the lab and simulated setting to prepare them to care for clients in a variety of settings. Students will also learn to manage client scenarios and perform select psychomotor skills with increased complexity using assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of client care.
PSYN 2145: General Nursing (Clinicals)
Students will begin to apply and understand concepts of health promotion, recovery, and psychosocial rehabilitation in this first clinical practice course. They will begin to use knowledge and skills working with individuals experiencing severe and persistent mental health challenges. Students will also apply skills from lab, pharmacology and psychosocial rehabilitation theory in varying mental health settings.
Spring 2027(January Term)
PSYN 2245: Medical/Surgical Nursing (Clinicals)
Students will practice nursing in settings with clients who require acute medical/surgical care, treatment and intervention. They will focus on developing assessment skills, documentation and health education. Students will also practice intermediate communication skills while working with clients.
Summer 2027 (May Term)
Non teaching

Qualifications
Master’s Degree completed (PhD preferred) Eligible for practicing membership with BCCNM as a Registered Psychiatric Nurse with no limits, no conditions, no terms Qualified to fulfill all teaching responsibilities of the program which includes RPN entry-level competencies to meet the standards of practice Minimum of five years of practice experience and current competence in their area of teaching

SALARY INFORMATION:
Placement on the salary scale will be dependent on level of education and relevant teaching experience. Advancement up the pay scale is based on FTE and employment status.
This competition is for a maximum FTE of 53.5% (NR2). When possible, priority will be given to the candidate(s) who can maximize the FTE either individually, or collectively, as such please indicate on your application your preferred workload percentage.
