Bruyère Health, an Academic Health Science Centre comprising over 590 beds across multiple sites, excels in the provision of evidence-based health care and services for the vulnerable and medically complex, with a focus on persons who require sub-acute, geriatric, stroke or palliative care. Among other programs, Bruyère Health provides in-patient and out-patient clinical services in Care of the Elderly, Complex Continuing Care, Palliative Care, Family Medicine and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. Bruyère is one of the largest health care centers of its kind in Canada and a resource for information on the special care required by the elderly, people with chronic and terminal illnesses, and persons having suffered loss of autonomy.

The Candidate:

Bruyère Health is seeking a Specialist in Internal Medicine (0.5 FTE) with a strong academic profile in research and/or quality to join our organization as an Internal Medicine Consultant across all of Bruyere Health’s clinical programs. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to support clinical excellence, and advance research, quality and innovation for the provision of complex medical care and rehabilitation to our patients.

The successful candidate will join our current Internal Medicine specialist to provide specialist Internal Medicine consultation across Bruyère Health programs including Palliative Care, Complex Medical care, low intensity rehabilitation as well as the geriatric and stroke rehabilitation programs. In parallel, the physician will assume a leadership role in clinical research, quality improvement, and knowledge translation, working closely with clinical programs, operational leaders, and the Bruyère Health Research Institute (BHRI).

BHRI is dedicated to advancing evidence based care for older adults and individuals living with complex, chronic conditions. The Institute provides a collaborative, interdisciplinary research environment with strong infrastructure to support clinical trials, applied health research, system innovation, and knowledge translation across the continuum of care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing consultative Internal Medicine expertise across inpatient, outpatient, and transitional care settings
    • Market site (Bruyere), Centretown site (St. Vincent) and Greystone
  • Leading or contributing to clinical and applied health research and quality aligned with Bruyère Health priorities
  • Teaching and mentoring learners and faculty, in alignment with academic responsibilities

Qualifications:

  • Certification in Internal Medicine (RCPSC or equivalent), with eligibility for licensure in Ontario
  • be a member of or be eligible for membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association
  • An active academic appointment with the University of Ottawa Faculty of Medicine (or eligibility for appointment)
  • Demonstrated experience in research and/or quality, with a record of scholarly activity

Remuneration:

The income for this position will be derived from a variety of sources including but not limited to clinical billings (Fee-for-Service) and Alternate Funding Plan salary support.
