Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY
The Museum Receptionist is responsible for taking admissions, answering telephones, liaising with visitors and serving in the Gift Shop. Duties as assigned by the Museum Office Supervisor.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (not listed in order of priority)

Open and close the Museum admission counter and gift shop which includes opening and closing safe and ensuring accuracy of daily cash and receipts.

Admission duties include taking admissions, monetary donations, greeting and orienting visitors, selling museum memberships, assisting visitors with travel/tourism information and keeping track of museum traffic acquisitions (weekends/paperwork).

Gift shop duties include selling gift shop items, restocking counters, cleaning, pricing, counting inventory, storing inventory and checking and recording new and existing merchandise.

Reception duties include answering the telephone and directing calls, taking messages, providing information about museum services and special events in a pleasant and professional manner. Receiving deliveries.

When time permits, assist with a variety of clerical duties including, but not limited to, stuffing envelopes, filing, typing, photocopying, faxing and labelling.

Receive artifact donations on weekends, in absence of Museum Registrar. Collect donor information and issue temporary receipt

Regular hours include weekends, statutory holidays, week days and evenings. Up to 3d/7d.

Comply with provincial and County occupational health and safety legislation, regulations, policies and procedures.

Maintain confidentiality in accordance with the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.

Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, TECHNICAL SKILLS AND CERTIFICATION

Grade 12 Education.

Excellent interpersonal and public relation skills are required involving common sense, tact, courtesy and integrity both in person and by telephone.

Ability to work as a cooperative team member.

Ability to carry out instructions.

Familiar with the special requirements of a Museum’s operation, environment, role and visitors.

Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening.
EXPERIENCE
-
A minimum of 3 – 6 months previous related experience.
-
Computerized cash register experience.
-
Experience with all financial transactions involved in retail.
-
Public relations.
-
Experience in using general office equipment.
EFFORT
- Some physical effort will be required when stocking shelves, moving boxes, etc.
