**Required Abilities, Qualifications and Experience: **
- Extensive academic training and post-graduate coursework in the following areas of students with special needs as well as strategies for adapting and modifying curriculum.
- Knowledge of and demonstrated application of the Ministry of Education's current philosophy, teaching practices, and evaluation/assessment/reporting procedures as outlined in the Manual of Policies, Procedures and Guidelines for Special Education Services.
- Demonstrated understanding of and successful experience in teaching students with moderate to severe intellectual disabilities, autism, chronic health and physical disabilities, and multiple disabilities as defined by the Ministry of Education.
- Demonstrated experience in and knowledge of methods for evaluating and selecting instructional materials suitable for students with a variety of special needs and learning disabilities.
- Knowledge of and demonstrated experience in the development, implementation and evaluation of CBIEPs in consultation with the classroom teacher(s), parent(s), student and district personnel.
- Knowledge of and demonstrated ability to implement teaching practices that align with the Professional Standards for BC Educators.
- Demonstrated ability and commitment to Indigenizing curriculum using the First Peoples Principles of Learning.
- Demonstrated experience and ability in being able to carry out a variety of assessments, including classroom observation, curriculum-based assessment and diagnostic teaching methods.
- Demonstrated sensitivity, awareness and understanding of child physical and social/emotional development and enthusiasm for working, and developing positive relationships, with elementary-aged children
- Demonstrated ability to select, adapt and differentiate classroom management and instructional materials to meet the individual academic, social/emotional, and behavioural needs of all students
- Demonstrated experience and ability to plan for, motivate and successfully teach students with diverse learning abilities at the Kindergarten to Grade 5 levels.
- Strong organizational skills and demonstrated ability to plan program support for multiple students to determine instructional grouping and lessons
- Willingness to teach and collaborate with other teachers' classrooms (co-plan and co-teach)
- Demonstrated knowledge of comprehensive literacy/numeracy programs and instruction
- Ability and commitment to utilize a variety of district and classroom/school-based assessments for allowing students to show what they know and using evidence to plan for instruction and intervention
- Demonstrated commitment to anti-racism, defined as the ongoing practice of identifying, challenging, and changing the values, structures, policies, programs, practices, and behaviours that perpetuate racism.
- Demonstrated ability and experience in tracking and monitoring student ability and achievement
- Willingness to collaborate with Student Services staff and classroom colleagues to align instructional, assessment, and reporting practices.
- Evidence of personal initiative and strong work ethic with a proven ability to work collaboratively as an effective team member
- Excellent communication skills with parents, students, and other staff
- Demonstrated experience with collaboration, shared decision-making, and leadership to foster positive student and staff relationships that build school culture.
- Commitment to supporting school-wide initiatives
