Position Overview The BC Securities Commission is seeking four temporary part-time Law Interns for the Fall and Winter term (two with Capital Markets Regulation and two with Corporate Finance). Interns will work with Legal Services counsel on regulatory, policy, and advisory initiatives across BC’s capital markets. Job Summary The Law Intern will work under the guidance of the Manager of Legal Services on a variety of projects assigned by legal counsel within either the Capital Markets Regulation (CMR) or Corporate Finance (CF) teams. The Legal Services Branch develops legislation, rules, and policies to support the effective regulation of capital markets and provides advice on a wide range of regulatory and policy initiatives. Depending on the team, work may include assisting with the development and implementation of legislative and policy initiatives, researching and analyzing regulatory frameworks, supporting the development or amendment of rules, reviewing applications for exemptive relief, and assisting with securities law compliance matters. Interns may also contribute to policy work related to registration requirements, marketplaces, self-regulatory organizations, and emerging areas such as fintech and innovation. Key Responsibilities Interns will support one of the two Legal Services teams. Responsibilities may include: Common Responsibilities (Both CMR & CF) Draft memos, briefing notes, and other legal documents Conduct legal research and analyze legislation, policy, and case law Research current developments impacting the securities industry Gather and analyze market and regulatory data Assist in development, amendment or implementation of legislative and policy initiatives, including in respect of securities rules and policies Review and summarize public comment letters on proposed rules Review selected elements of applications for exemptive relief
Capital Markets Regulation (CMR) Support research on emerging regulatory issues, including fintech and innovation Analyze frameworks relating to registration, marketplaces, and self-regulatory organizations
Corporate Finance (CF) Assist with corporate finance compliance matters Support research on emerging regulatory issues Qualifications 2nd or 3rd year law student, or recent law graduate Completion of, or current enrollment in, a securities regulation course is strongly recommended Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills Interest in capital markets, financial regulation, and public policy
Please note these are not articling positions. BCSC currently does not offer articling positions. Term & Compensation Term: Early September 2026 to April 2027 Schedule: Temporary Part-time (maximum 17.5 hours per week, weekdays only) Positions: 4 total (2 per team)
Compensation: $27.47 per hour $50.00 bi-weekly in lieu of benefits (pro-rated based on hours worked) 6% vacation pay
