Men’s Program Counsellor Summit Community Services Society Location: Cranbrook, B.C. Position Summary The men’s program counsellor provides one-on-one and group counselling to men who have experienced physical, emotional, or sexualized abuse and men who have used abusive behaviours. The focus of this role is to provide trauma-informed, strengths-based, person-centered, and non-judgemental support and clinical interventions to persons served. This role is fast-paced and requires an individual interested in doing community engagement work to raise awareness about programming and help ensure program longevity. Key Responsibilities Provide clinical counselling to men in our community who have experienced abuse or who have used abusive behaviours Plan and lead group counselling sessions centered around healthy relationships, accountability, self-esteem, identifying and living one’s values, and behavioural change Participate in community engagement activities and collaborate with community partners Track program statistics and complete mid-term and final reports Demonstrated experience in case management, including assessing client needs, developing service plans, coordinating supports, and maintaining accurate documentation. Qualifications Education & Experience Hold a master’s degree in Counselling Psychology, Social Work, or equivalent Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, women & gender studies, sociology, criminology, or other relevant field would be considered with additional training and experience Experience supporting individuals who have faced complex trauma in a non-judgmental and strengths-based manner ASIST training, Mental Health First Aid training, or equivalent EMDR training an asset Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Ability to provide non-judgmental, strengths-based, and trauma informed support Ability to utilize appropriate clinical interventions Ability to be open-minded and hold space for differing values, views, and life experiences and build rapport amidst differences Comfortable responding to individuals in crisis and engaging in risk assessments and risk mitigation strategies Strong communication, relationship-building, and interpersonal skills Ability to work on a team and effectively collaborate with colleagues and community partners Knowledge of various psychotherapy approaches and desire to learn more and build skills Understanding of how patriarchy and other systems harm men and impact their experiences of violence Knowledge of a systems-based or feminist-based analysis of gender-based violence Ability to hold space for individuals with complex life experiences who have used harmful behaviours and are seeking support with behavioural change If this dynamic role sounds like a fit for you, please apply below.
