Current Shifts: Primarily Days (4 days per week)- 0800-1600 (8 hour shifts)

Position Summary:

The HIM/HICA Professional maintains the highest standards for health care data. The HIM – Release of Information (ROI) is the primary contact for all hospital health information Release of Information Services including patient record release of information, access and privacy and confidentiality. Process and coordinate all hospital patient record release of information request including physicians, midwives, patients, health care agencies, lawyers, insurance companies, WSIB and MOHLTC. The HIM – Release of Information participates in health data quality activities and continuous quality improvement initiatives. The HIM-Release of Information works on site at GGH.

Qualifications, Experience, Skills and Abilities:

  • Graduate of a Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA) approved Health Information Management program
  • Active member of Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA)
  • Health Information Certified Associate (HICA) or Certified Health Information Management Professional (CHIM)
  • Release of Information (ROI) micro-credential an asset
  • Minimum one year experience in an acute health care setting with primary responsibility for Release of Patient Information
  • Demonstrated comprehensive knowledge of privacy and FOI legislation
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team; HIM- Coder working primarily remotely from home and HIM-Release of Information working on site at GGH
  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills complemented by the ability to maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Demonstrated commitment to excellent customer service when interacting with colleagues and the hospital community
  • Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) systems
  • Data Analysis: Ability to accurately interpret and release patient medical information according to legal and ethical guidelines
  • Thorough understanding of privacy laws (PHIPA) and (FIPPA)
