Introduction to GERI GERI is a Canadian enhanced heavy-oil recovery innovator, focused on providing clients with solutions to simultaneously recover more oil and reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Position Overview: GERI is looking for an experienced fractional Chief Financial Officer to help shape all financial aspects of the company as it transitions from start-up to leader in its field. As such, the role covers all aspects of financial management – from setting a financial strategy that drives growth and profitability through to implementing strong financial management tools and ensuring best business practice in terms of budgeting, accounting, reporting and auditing.
An integral part of the senior management team, our ideal candidate would blend technical and industry experience with strong leadership skills and the power to communicate effectively and clearly to all stakeholders. This position is expected to require 2.5 days per week, with flexibility in scheduling based on business needs. Key Responsibilities: Financial Planning and Reporting: Planning – develop a strategic financial plan and work with senior management on tactical asset allocation (the general direction has already been set but will need to be refined as the company takes on pilots and clients). Modelling – Develop a 3-year financial projection model with scenario analysis to assist with project analysis, risk management, cash flow management and target setting. Reporting - Setting up of financial dashboards and management accounts, as well as the drafting and publication of year-end accounts
Business partnering: Driving efficiencies and process improvement Analyzing project profitability/ margin analysis - quantifying the financial impact of specific projects, new sales markets, licensing contracts and joint venture opportunities as needed, as well as supporting the preparation of business cases (NPV, ROI analysis). Mentoring key accounting and leadership team members and developing their skill set
Accounting and Finance: Cash-flow management - monitoring cash burn rate/cash runway, identifying areas of cost reduction and improving debtor payment terms (when relevant) Developing, implementing, and maintaining accounting policies and procedures as may be required
Fundraising: Supervising applications for early-stage funding opportunities either through private finance or public grants.
Risk, Compliance and Audit: Ensuring compliance with financial and fiscal regulations and standards. Reviewing and managing financial risks. Managing insurance needs and provider relations as required
Our Ideal Candidate: Proven experience as a VP finance/CFO in the oil and gas industry Flexible and adaptable - capable of reacting quickly in a changing and challenging environment Preferably experience of the specific issues faced by pre-revenue or start-up companies, including defining revenue models, finding the correct price positioning and structure and seeking and securing federal or provincial public funding or other types of funding as required. Good communication skills - must be able to clearly present and explain financial metrics to all stakeholders Understanding of accounting, regulatory issues (including ARO and AER), and tax planning You Must Have: 10-12 years’ experience in progressive Finance roles At least one role as a business/functional partner with financial results (P&L) accountability and FP&A Bachelor's in accounting or finance
