Job Summary & Key Responsibilities

A part-time academic is required to teach HIST 1020.03 Europe Before the French Revolution in the Fall 2026 Term (1 September to 31 December, 2026). The classes are currently scheduled on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1335-1425.

This course will introduce students to the major themes and events in early European history. The exact period and topics to be covered will vary from one year to the next, but will typically introduce students to the formation of European culture in the middle ages, the sixteenth-century Reformation, the beginnings of European colonization, and the intellectual and economic ‘revolutions’ of the eighteenth century.

The part-time academic is responsible for all aspects of teaching, grading and administration of the classes. Teaching Assistants will be provided to support. In addition, the part-time academic is to be available for two hours per week outside of class time for student consultation. The part-time academic reports to the Chair of the History Department.

Qualifications/Requirements of Position

Candidates must possess an MA in History or a related field. A PhD in History or a related field is preferred. Research expertise in European history is strongly recommended.

All offers of employment as a part-time academic are conditional upon sufficient student enrolment in the course and approval by the University.
