About the Department

Health Services is co-located in Wellness Services along with the MRU Injury & Prevention Clinic, Student Counselling Services and the Healthy Campus Team. The Administrative team includes; Medical Office Assistants, a Lead Administrator, and a Clinic Manager. Other members of the healthcare team include; clinic nurses and mental health nurses, clinic physicians, mental health only physicians, psychiatrists and a Sports Medicine physician.

About The Role

The Medical Office Assistant position is a part of a team of healthcare professionals in the Health Services, comprehensive primary care clinic. This position supports the operations of the medical clinic from Monday to Thursday (9 AM to 5 PM) over 10 months with an inactive period in July and August each year. This position is part-time, working 28 hours per week.

Responsibilities

This position is responsible for the provision of medical office administrative support services including:

Provides exceptional customer service to patients and all team members including colleagues from other services and departments Books patient appointment with team healthcare providers in the clinic using the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) Patient interaction is provided in-person, over the phone, via email or through a secure online patient portal Supports healthcare providers with referrals and other patient tasks as required. Manages provider schedules, cancels and reschedules patient appointments as necessarily Coordinates with clinic nurses when Security Services advises of the arrival of a person in needs of medical assistance Receives and controls cash received from patients for uninsured medical services. Compliant with use of the POS system when receiving funds for services Maintaining a health records system and confidentiality as directed under the Health Information Act (HIA) Coordinates requests for personal health information by following legislation under the Health Information Act (HIA) Supports the training of other team members when required Supports the development of effective customer service systems to enhance service success and patient satisfaction Adheres to Standard Operating Procedures and actively participates in clinic audits as per the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA) Complies with MRU cybersecurity and other relevant training.

Qualifications

Medical Office Administrative experience in primary care or another medical clinic setting (minimum 2-3 years) Completion of Medical Office Assistant program or equivalent is an asset. Strong customer service qualities, inter-personal and multi-tasking skills, effective communication and organizational skills as well as ability to work in high volume clinic. Strong practical experience with use of an Electronic Medical Record (EMR)

Salary: $24.81 - $31.38 per hour (effective July 1st, $25.55 - 32.32 per hour)
