About Our Opportunity

Family Services of Greater Vancouver (FSGV) is seeking an experienced clinical counsellor to join our team in a unique role supporting the provincial Shift BC program (Shift). As an FSGV employee, you will manage a dedicated caseload of Shift participants while working as part of FSGV’s clinical team and in close collaboration with Shift's interdisciplinary partners.

Shift is British Columbia's secondary and tertiary prevention program for individuals experiencing elevated risk factors associated with radicalization to violence/violent extremism. Using a modified Hub Model, the program provides voluntary, non-punitive, and non-investigative support to help participants disengage from ideologically motivated violence by addressing the underlying factors that contribute to risk, including trauma, social isolation, identity-related challenges, and other complex needs. Shift focuses on behavioural change and community safety, not changing beliefs or ideologies.

In this role, you will provide specialized assessment, therapeutic counselling, case coordination, and interdisciplinary consultation. Counsellors approach this work from a trauma-informed, intersectional, and strengths-based lens, supporting participants in fostering safety, stability, community connection, and pro-social engagement through collaborative, participant-centred interventions.

Salary: GS13 Step 1 $37.89 per hour

What do you need to succeed?

Education, Training, Experience

Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology, Social Work, or equivalent degree (MA, M.Ed., MSW), and registered as an RCC or RSW. Minimum of 3 years’ relevant counselling experience working with individuals experiencing trauma and complex psychosocial needs Training in trauma-informed counselling, somatic approaches, parts-work/Internal Family Systems-informed approaches, and expressive arts-based interventions Experience with collaborative case planning, crisis response, and interdisciplinary consultation is an asset Experience or interest in violence prevention, disengagement work, or working with individuals vulnerable to radicalization to violence is an asset

Role Qualifications and Skills include, but are not limited to

Strong understanding of trauma-informed practice and the neurobiological impacts of trauma Knowledge of best practices in trauma treatment, including somatic approaches, expressive arts-based approaches, attachment work, and parts-work/IFS-informed approaches Excellent clinical counselling skills, including engagement, assessment, risk-assessment, safety planning, and intervention Ability to work collaboratively within a multi-sectoral and interdisciplinary team environment Knowledge, skills, and experience working with diverse populations impacted by trauma, systemic barriers, marginalization, poverty, abuse, addiction, and mental health concerns Demonstrated commitment to trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, culturally responsive, and intersectional practice Ability to approach participants from a non-judgmental, strengths-based, and relationship-centred lens Strong communication, organization, and documentation skills

Additional Requirements

Successful completion of a Criminal Record Check Registered (or eligible for registration) with an appropriate professional body (e.g., BCACC, BC College of Social Workers)
