Position Summary Assistants support persons with intellectual disabilities at L’Arche Saint John. Working as part of the McKim House team, assistants provide direct care, foster a welcoming community life, and ensure the smooth day-to-day running of the home. Duties include personal care, household tasks, participation in community activities, and maintaining a supportive environment that reflects the values of L’Arche. This is a part-time position, well-suited for individuals seeking occasional or part-time work in a meaningful, people-focused environment. Weekday morning, evening and weekend availability is required. Major Duties and Responsibilities: * Provide respectful, high-quality support in areas such as personal care, household chores, meal preparation, transportation, medication, and community participation. * Build supportive relationships with core members based on mutual respect and dignity. * Collaborate with the House Leader and other assistants to maintain a safe, welcoming, and inclusive home. * Support and participate in house routines, traditions, and celebrations. * Keep records as directed (e.g., daily logs, medication records). * Adhere to L’Arche policies, guidelines, and safety procedures. * Participate in orientation and training as required. Qualifications: * High school diploma or equivalent. * Fluent in spoken and written English; able to work effectively in a team setting. * Clear Criminal Record Check, including Vulnerable Sector Screening, and clear Social Development Record Check (processed upon hire) * Valid CPR & First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain). * Valid driver’s license is required. * At least 19 years of age. * Knowledge of or openness to L’Arche history, values, and vision. * Flexible, reliable, and able to manage the stress of multi-faceted responsibilities. * Calm, focused, and able to respond well in times of crisis. * Open to learning and able to give and receive feedback. Working Conditions and Physical Environment: * Hours are part-time, based on relief needs. Shifts may include days, evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays.

Requirements
Requires a high school diploma, a valid driver's license, and the ability to pass criminal and social development record checks. Candidates must be at least 19 years old and possess or be willing to obtain CPR and First Aid certification.
