Every position contributes to the spiritual and social mission of The Salvation Army. The Children and Youth Coordinator will coordinate activities associated with discipleship and outreach ministries such as messy church, Youth Group, Bible studies and special events for Children and Youth from the church and local community.

HOURS:

  • 20 hours per week.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Contributes to the spiritual development of the children and youth of the church by mentoring, discipling, encouraging, and modelling appropriate Christian attitudes and behaviours.
  • Coordinates, implements, maintains, and assists in the evaluation of programs/ministries relevant to the children and youth of the church and community at large; may plan and conduct creative worship services, evangelistic outreach, care programs ( including on-going visitation ) and Bible studies as applicable.
  • Prays with and leads children and youth and family members to faith in Jesus Christ as opportunity permits.
  • Perform duties as outlined in job description.
  • Work within the mission of The Salvation Army

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

Education/Certifications:

  • Completed high school Grade 12
  • Completion of a formal post-secondary/college program of two academic years preferably in some form of Biblical studies
  • Minimum 1 year of prior related experience, including working with children and youth.
  • Note: an alternative level of education and experience may be acceptable.
  • First Aid
  • Drivers License and clean driving record

Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • Understand and support for the mission and purpose of The Salvation Army in Canada and is implications as related to position responsibilities.
  • Has a strong, mature personal Christian commitment that is able to lead and teach from the Bible and the doctrines of The Salvation Army
  • Proven proficient use of internet-based software, Microsoft Office, Excel, online search engines, and social media.
  • Proven active and compassionate listening skills.
  • Proven problem-solving and conflict management training/skills.
  • A self-starter, creative and innovative
  • Excellent communication, administrative and organizational skills
  • Obtain clearance from Ministry of Justice Criminal Record check and clearance from The Salvation Army's Internal Abuse registry.
  • Willingness and ability to complete online new hire health and safety training.
  • Willingness and ability to complete training as required by contract or The Salvation Army
  • Time management, attention to detail and ability to work independently.
  • The understanding that this is a ministry position and as such must be willing to work a flexible schedule.

Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide:

  • Background check consent.
  • A clear vulnerable sector screening.
  • A clean drivers abstract.
  • Completion of our online Armatus Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training.
